Linux was, for quite some time, very hard to use and wasn’t user friendly, nor the operating system that someone would wish to use on a desktop computer.
Ark Linux is far from being perfect, I don’t recommend it as a server operating system for the time being, nor would I say that it’s the operating system that one would wish to count on when it comes to development.
Linux is powerful and a great amount of its power is revealed when a terminal emulator or the text mode is used.

Ark Linux is at least the tenth Linux distribution to grace one of the two boxes I've had since I switched from Mac OS X to Linux (long story that started out sad, but ended up happy).
On their web site, the Ark Linux folks state their distribution is for the desktop, primarily for people with no previous Linux experience.
Ark won't install over existing partitions, so the choices it offers are to use the whole drive, to use any free space on the target drive, or resize a partition.

At the moment, Ark Linux will run only on x86 machines (i586 and up, but Pentium III or Athlon or higher is strongly recommended), but we're hoping to add more architectures as we gain contributors, demand, and test hardware.

But you almost never hear someone say "Hey, did you download the latest version of Ark Linux?" Well, it's too bad, because Ark Linux might someday be a viable contender for the Linux desktop crown and it surely deserves some recognition as such at this point.
Ark's tweaked-out KDE desktop was such a joy to use, we (gasp!) didn't really miss Gnome as much as we thought we would.
We commend Ark for making it so easy for Linux newbies to control their systems without having to hunt around for scattered links in menus or cryptic Linux commands at the command prompt.

The installer almost killed Ark Linux, which years ago used to be a well polished, rock solid distro.
