A boost in the sales tax was supported across the state with support ranging from a high of 70% in the 5th congressional district to a low of 58% in the 2nd district.
In a two-way matchup for the presidency between Republican President George Bush and Arkansas governor Bill Clinton, Bush is favored by 60% of Mississippians likely to vote in November, while Clinton receives 30% of the vote and 10% are undecided.
The smaller sample of 373 likely voters was determined by people's responses to three political knowledge, interest, and vote likelihood questions, and it consequently has a slightly higher approximate sample error of 5%.

Snyder, who represents the 2nd District, gave Parks some red meat issues on which to frame an attack by voting against authorization for the Iraq war and a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriages.
"You almost get the impression that Vic Snyder is a person that pays attention to his constituency, but when his conscience matters on a particular issue he's willing to vote it and he's willing to try to explain it to his district, and I think people respect him for that," English said.
This year, Snyder may appear to be the most vulnerable of the state's four sitting congressmen with state Rep. Marvin Parks, R-Greenbrier, challenging, but political observers aren't expecting a Snyder loss this cycle, either.

Victor F. Snyder (born September 27, 1947) is the Democratic United States Congressman from the 2nd Congressional District of Arkansas (map).
He has a fairly liberal voting record for being an elected politician from the South and otherwise conservative-leaning Arkansas.
Snyder voted against the Federal Marriage Amendment, the ban on partial-birth abortions, banning lawsuits against gun manufacturers and distributors, bankruptcy reform, drilling in ANWR, and the authorization of force in Iraq, many these positions however are supported by Democrats from Southern states.
