The Arlington Historical Society (AHS), founded in September 1956, is a non-profit organization incorporated under the laws of Virginia and operated for literary and educational purposes that support research, collection, preservation, discovery, restoration and dissemination of the local history of Arlington County, Virginia.
Arlington is still a county, with no incorporated cities or towns within its boundaries.
Arlington County's Historical Affairs and Landmark Review Board HALRB is sponsoring a program on Sunday, July 17, at 1:30 p.m., in the new Tiffany Gallery of the historic Maury School, 3550 Wilson Boulevard, to present the HALRB's annual Preservation Design Awards.

Arlington House is uniquely associated with the families of Washington, Custis, and Lee for it was built by George Washington Park Custis.
Arlington House, named after the Custis family's homestead of Virginia's Eastern Shore, was built on a 445-hectare (1,100-acre) estate that Custis' father, John Parke Custis, purchased in 1778.
After Arlington became headquarters for the officers who were superintending the nearby defenses of Washington, many of the remaining family possessions were moved to the Patent Office for safekeeping.
