		Armageddon is a 1998 disaster film/science fiction film about a group of blue-collar deep-core drillers who are sent by NASA to deflect an asteroid on a collision course with Earth.
		Armageddon was released during a period when disaster movies were seeing a comeback.
		The movie was nominated in seven categories for the 1998 Golden Raspberry Awards, but only one was awarded: the Best Actor award was given to Bruce Willis for his Armageddon performance, along with appearances in Mercury Rising and The Siege.

		In "Armageddon", the focus is primarily on telling the stories of Stamper, A.J., Truman, and Grace-- their challenges are set-up, their struggle is presented, and the pay-off comes in a satisfying emotional high.
		"Armageddon" also came off as a more humorous and evenly-paced pic, in contrast to the "Deep Impact", which was not only overtly-grim, but was also stuck in first-gear for the majority of the first two acts with a story that lacked a sense of urgency.

		I went to this movie with the knowledge from others who had seen it, that it was a really good movie, if you could get past the swear words.
		Watch this movie, and you'd believe a prerequisite for heroism is to be a drunken, perverted lout.
		This movie was BAD, and the time and money better spent watching reruns of Lost in Space episodes, which in contrast to Amageddon, actually had some realism to the space/technology.

		Made with lots of money ($140 million!), a strong cast and tons of special effects, ARMAGEDDON tells the tale of a team of oilmen called in by the president to land on a Texas-sized asteroid approaching Earth and blast it into pieces before it ends life as we know it.
		The problem with a format such as this is that the entire movie melts down into an amorphous blob of frenzy which has absolutely no credibility and frankly, begins to feel insulting.

		If only they had listened to Bruce in interviews during the festival. Had they heard him say that the attraction of the movie to him was the challenge and the script, they would have realised that Bruce Willis is a very good actor indeed.
		Most of the comic moments in the first half of the movie are centred on the drillers attempting to train to be astranauts in the space of a week.
		The movie suffers most from the fact that Deep Impact covers much the same story - key scenes are identical in both movies.

		The problem with disaster movies is that it is very hard to find an antagonist, i.e., someone you hate by the end of the movie.
		Some movies try to cast natural disasters as either a force out to teach us a lesson or as an evil entity.
