Armagh City then had a chance themselves when Elliott Morris was called on, to save a Mark Turkington free-kick, that was made all the harder as it took a deflection.
Glentoran continued to press and caused the Armagh City defence more problems when Colin Nixon flicked on a throw-in, the ball being cleared to Peter McCann whose effort was delected to Gary Hamilton who flashed his effort over the bar from 6 yards after 20 minutes.
A minute later Armagh City had a chance when Shane Coney did well down the left to set-up Mark Turkington, who saw his effort just go by the Glens left hand post, with Elliott Morris stranded.

City made six changes at the break, and this looked like it was going to change the game when Michael O’Neill struck just wide of Bowman’s left hand post six minutes in.

City have had a somewhat quieter summer so it was more in hope than expectation that the large travelling support made the journey.
City began the second half much more purposefully with David Hawthorne in particular beginning to dominate more in midfield after a quiet first half.
City weren't quite done yet however, and another David Ward cross caused all sorts of mayhem in the box allowing David Hawthorne to drill the ball home with 5 minutes remaining, bringing all 3 points back to Holm Park.

Sligo Weekender: Conlon enjoys his Irish duty
Conlon, who is stationed in McKee Barracks, Phoenix Park, was one of two Sligo-Leitrim Super League players chosen for the game in Armagh but Shane Hayes, the Carbury FC player, was forced to withdraw from the squad due to injury.
Ironically, Hayes’ absence stemmed from an accidental collision with Conlon at a Republic of Ireland squad training session and when his knee problem failed to clear, the midfielder was unable to make the trip north.
The standard of the game in Holm Park, the facilities of Armagh City FC, certainly impressed Conlon, who had a spell with SLigo Rovers in the eircom League.

 THE RULES OF SOCCER FOOTBALL
A player was "off his side" if he was standing in front of the ball (compare with the current offside law in rugby—a game descended from the same roots), that is, between the ball and the opponent's goal.
This was by no means universal —the original Sheffield F.C. rules had no offside, and players known as "kick throughs" were positioned permanently near the opponents' goal.
The invention of the penalty kick is credited to the goalkeeper and businessman William McCrum in 1890 in Milford, County Armagh, Northern Ireland.
