 Armagh Mall Redevelopment Wins Award
The restoration and conservation of the Mall in Armagh City was awarded the 2005 Civic Trust Northern Ireland Public Realm Special Award, sponsored by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, earlier this year.
Presenting the award to Alastair Coey in Armagh, the Arts Council’s Chief Executive, Roisín McDonough said that she was “especially delighted that this year’s winner has at its heart the sensitive regeneration of the public space of one of Northern Ireland’s most beautiful and architecturally striking cities”.
Paul Harron, the Arts Council’s Architecture and Public Art Officer, said that this award “recognises those who are setting the very highest standards improving the quality of the built environment in Northern Ireland and through this the quality of life for everyone”.

Pat McNamee from Armagh City and District Council has published a discussion paper on the future of the centre ahead of its anticipated opening this May and wants to see it include a range of historic sites in the area.
Armagh City and District Council bought the mothballed Navan Centre after a lengthy legal process and hopes to use it to revitalise tourism in the area.
The Sinn Fein councillor said the Tamlacht Horde, two bowls of Czechoslovakian origin from 1100 BCE and a bronze sword made in Ireland during the same period, could be housed at Navan and would increase its prestige as a centre of archaelogical treasures.
