Upon arriving in New York City in 1949, Armando was an instantly sought-after musician, especially in the contemporary Bebop and Latin Jazz scene.
In January 2003, LP unveiled the new LP Accents Armando Peraza Signature Series Congas and Bongos as a tribute to this percussion icon.

Armando Peraza has long been considered one of popular music's top percussionists - a master of both the conga and bongos.
Born in Havana, Cuba, onMay 30, 1924, Peraza lost both parents at an early age, and by the age of 12, was living on his own, supporting himself around this time as a vegetable vendor, semi-pro baseball player, boxing trainer, and a loan shark.
Although Peraza had no musical experience, he was able to convince Ruiz to give him a shot, and after practicing for just several hours that afternoon, pulled off the performance with flying colors.

The permanent professional relationship between Peraza and Carlos Santana ended when Peraza left the group in 1990, although he did travel to Santiago de Chile for a major concert with Santana in 1992 in front of a crowd in excess of 100,000.

Armando is not tone deaf and the solo is not just a vague mumbling blur of chatterbox stuttering typewriters.
Armando says this piece reminds him quite a bit of a solo he performed while sitting in with Poncho at Yoshi's in the Bay Area many years back.
