Armavia is an airline based in Yerevan, Armenia.
In 2002, an alliance was established with Siberia Airlines in Russia, which acquired a controlling stake (70%) in Armavia.
The Armavia fleet consists of the following aircraft (at July 2005): 4 Airbus A320-200's, a few older Russian aircraft are being phased out.

Armavia, the Russian-owned private carrier, stopped flying to Amsterdam, Frankfurt and Paris on Saturdays and Sundays starting from this month, immediately after obtaining exclusive rights to the flights from the Armenian government.
The head of the department, Artyom Movsisian, told RFE/RL that he has protested to the Armavia management because he thinks that the flight cancellation is complicating Armenia’s communication with the outside world and damaging its nascent tourism industry.
Movsisian said he is not satisfied with Armavia’s assurances that the flights will be restored in late March.

Armavia check-in counter staff and ground crew for Armavia at Zvartnots International airport was not helpful at all, and in fact rather arrogant.
As the bus load of passengers rushed to the aircraft steps pushing and shoving each other, the three Armavia ground reps standing on the second stair level leading into aircraft just stood there with vacant looks on their faces, not helping the elderly or women with children.
Once inside the aircraft, service was very similar, although all flight attendants (2 female and 1 male) worked the cabin in unison on this particular flight.

I would feel much safer on an Ilyushin maintained and flown by BA than on a Boeing maintained and flown by Armavia.
As Armavia don't fly from London (you have to go to Amsterdam or Frankfurt to get them) I would go for the nonstop BA/Brit Med flight from Heathrow.
Once upon a time it was "accepted wisdom" here in Europe that Eastern European airlines were to be avoided; these days carriers like Malev, LOT and Lithuanian Airlines are considered perfectly acceptable and I was rather hoping that perhaps someone might come up and say "I've flown Armavia many times and they are wonderful".

Russia's number 2 airline Sibir effectively took control of Armenia's national airline's 70 percent stake last April in a handover that has expanded the Russian carrier's access to markets abroad.
The deal came after the state-owned Armenian Airlines folded under the weight of its debts, and Sibir assumed the lion's share of its 36 flight destination licenses, which had been earlier granted to Armavia.
