  Halifax Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Halifax Regional Municipality, commonly referred to as HRM or simply Halifax (44°39′N 63°35′W, AST) is a Canadian regional municipality, the largest population centre in both the Province of Nova Scotia and the Atlantic region, the provincial capital, and the cultural and economic centre of Canada's east coast.
Halifax Regional Municipality (2001 population, 359,111) was created in 1996, through the amalgamation of the cities of Halifax and Dartmouth, the town of Bedford, and the Municipality of the County of Halifax.
Halifax International Airport, which serves HRM and virtually all of peninsular Nova Scotia, is located in the northern part of the municipality on the border with Hants County in Enfield.

Armdale is a Canadian community located in Halifax County, Nova Scotia at the head of the Northwest Arm.
Following the 1996 amalgamation of all municipalities in Halifax County which formed the Halifax Regional Municipality, Armdale and its neighbouring communities west of the Halifax Peninsula were grouped under the term "Mainland Halifax".
The largest employer during the 20th century in the Armdale area was Simpson's and later Simpsons-Sears, which operated a large warehouse for its catalogue division beside the railway line.

Halifax, NS, Oct. 30: A detailed report from Nova Scotia Power, released today, documents the extensive damage to the province's electricity system and reviews the massive power restoration efforts that followed in the wake of Hurricane Juan.
This includes repairs to much of the 4,500 km of local distribution wires in the Halifax region, and further thousands of kilometers of distribution wires in Truro and Pictou county, that suffered damage during the Hurricane.
At the peak, in Metro Halifax 106 "feeder" lines that flow from these substations were affected by the Hurricane.

With respect to the proposed purchasers' endorsement of the upgrading of the Halifax system by expanding its channel capacity from 27 to 35 channels, the CRTC noted that such upgrading was initiated by the licensee in 1982 and that it was expected to be completed by September of 1984.
David C. Robbins of Halifax and the licensee's reply thereto, and is satisfied that the fee increase is justified on the basis of the Commission's current criteria for rate regulation.
Halifax Station (now usually known as Old North Station) was accidentally demolished at 9:04am on 6 December 1917 and was not rebuilt; it was replaced by a new railway station in southern Halifax, on the east side of Hollis Street at South Street (which in 2002 remains in operation as Halifax's railway station.)

Halifax 's cathedral church of All Saints, which had replaced some stonework and its transept roof over the past year, lost the new roof — about 2 1/2 tonnes of wood frame, roofing material and copper flashing — with one powerful gust.
The cathedral is also examining design modifications to the tower and changing its flooring during the repair process.
The damage also meant that the diocese's electoral synod, scheduled for Nov. 22, had to be moved from the cathedral to St. James church, Armdale, in Halifax.

One such project is a modification to the Armdale Rotary and Chebucto Road.
In this project, the rotary will be converted to the design and operating rules of a ‘modern roundabout.’ The other part of the project is to convert Chebucto Road so that it will have a reversing center lane similar to the section of Herring Cove Road coming up from the Rotary.
What this means to the Armdale Rotary is that we will essentially gain an additional lane.

Every city has some great highlights such as New York with the Empire State, Times Square etc but by the same token there are some ‘seedy’ spots in every town, such as Harlem in New York.
The same rule applies to Halifax and Gottingen Street is, at certain times in the day, a ‘not so nice place to be in’.
