The theme of the first Armed Forces Day was "Teamed for Defense." It was chosen as a means of expressing the unification of all the military forces under a single department of the government.
Armed Forces Day is celebrated annually on the third Saturday of May. Armed Forces Week begins on the second Saturday of May and ends on the third Sunday of May, the day after Armed Forces Day.

In Egypt, the Armed Forces Day is celebrated on October 6 (or in the Islamic Calendar, the 10th of Ramadan) in commemeration of the Egyptian successes early in the Yom Kippur War which started on October 6, 1973.
In the U.S., Armed Forces Day is celebrated on the third Saturday in May. There were previously separate Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps Days.
