  Armed Forces Service Medal
The medal is awarded to members of the Armed Forces who, as a unit, participate in a United States military operation deemed to be a significant activity and who encounter no foreign armed opposition or imminent hostile action.
The qualifying periods of service are 30 days (continuous or accumulated) in the territory or air space of the former Yugoslavia and the Adriatic Sea, or 90 days (continuous or accumulated) in direct support of NATO operations in areas adjacent to the former Republic of Yugoslavia.
The NATO Medal presentation set may include a clasp denoting the specific operation for which the award was made (for this operation the clasp bears the words "Former Yugoslavia").

The Armed Forces Service Medal (AFSM) is an individual theater award awarded to members of the United States Armed Forces who, after 1 June 1992, have participated in a U.S. military operation deemed to be a significant activity encountering no foreign armed opposition or imminent threat of hostile action.
The AFSM is not authorized for operations in which all deployed participants are awarded the HSM and for which the period of immediate relief coincides with the duration of significant deployed operations.
The AFSM may be awarded posthumously and presented to representative(s) of the deceased as deemed appropriate by the Secretary concerned.

The Armed Forces Service Medal is authorized for those who provided, or are providing, direct support to relief efforts for 30 consecutive days, or 60 nonconsecutive days anywhere in the United States from Aug. 27, 2005, to Feb. 27, 2006.
Service members who are awarded the Humanitarian Service Medal may also qualify for the Armed Forces Service Medal, provided their direct support occurred after the qualifying dates for the HSM.

Case in point is the KDSM, and another Medal for Cold War service in Korea the UN is planning to issue.
The AFSM was originally awarded to folks in Bosnia, and I don't think a Hurricane JTF has the same degree of risk that IFOR and early SFOR troops had.
Medals for wounds recieved in Combat, Medals for continued excellence in Service, high standards, etc etc, is one thing.

The Armed Forces Civilian Service Medal (AFCSM) is established to recognize the contributions and accomplishments of the DOD civilian workforce who directly support the military forces, when those members are engaged in military operations of a prolonged peacekeeping or humanitarian nature.

A minimum of 30 days consecutive or 60 days nonconsecutive service is required for the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, unless the full period of an operation is less than 30 days, for which participation for the entire period is required.
Originally, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal was designated to replace the Navy and Marine Corps expeditionary medals.
This was the case from 1962 until 1978, when the two services' medals once again entered their inventory for service-specific operations.
