The Armed Forces of Malta once again participated in Exercise Canale which this year was held in Augusta in Sicily.

28 illegal immigrants were brought ashore at Haywharf, Valletta by an Armed Forces of Malta (AFM) patrol boat during the afternoon after the small boat the immigrants were traveling on was spotted a few miles off the coast of Valetta.
The total number of illegal immigrants who reached Malta throughout the month of June now stands at 90, while a further 112 illegal immigrants made it to Maltese shores throughout the rest of the year.
The Malta Armed Forces (AFM) and the Italian Coast Guard rescued 16 survivors and recovered several of the bodies of the other illegal immigrants who weren’t as lucky.

Valletta - The implications of the Ombudsman’s report about the situation obtaining for career advancement within the Armed Forces of Malta is not on the list of priorities of the Office of the Prime Minister.
After a number of promotions were handed out, 77 soldiers who had registered a formal complaint about the promotions, stated that they were not satisfied with the outcome of their complaint and registered a fresh grievance with the Office of the Ombudsman.
When MaltaToday asked for the reactions of the Office of the Prime Minister, which is responsible for the Armed Forces, to the Ombudsman’s damning report the newspaper was merely informed by a spokesman: "We are looking into it." A similar request made to the head of the Armed Forces elicited no reply at all.

Comino was made out of bounds for all civilians, and sailors were ordered to give the island a wide berth, or face the consequence of a death by a firing squad and confiscation of the shipping vessel.
The tower was manned by the armed forces in both the First and Second World War, until handed over to the Government of Malta.
