Young Turks and the Armenian Genocide
While the mass deportations of the civilian Armenian population was carried out in the spring and summer of 1915 and were completed by the fall, the systematic slaughter of the Armenians had started earlier with the murder of the able-bodied males already drafted into the Ottoman armed forces.
He was the mastermind of the Armenian Genocide and coordinated the various agencies of the Ottoman government required for the deportation, expropriation, and extermination of the Armenians.
By expropriating the movable and immovable wealth of the Armenians, the CUP also looked upon its policy of genocide as a means for enriching its coffers and rewarding its cohorts.

 Armenian Terror
The “Armenian Revolutionary Federation” or "Tashnak Organization" is also known as the "TashnakParty." In fact, after the communist took over of the Armenian Republic, the Tashnak organization continued its existence as a party in exile, mainly in Lebanon, Iran, France, Greece and the United States.
When the factors leading to the new period of Armenian terrorism are taken into consideration and their aims and policies, especially as a Hunchak terrorist organization, are examined, the conclusion can be reached that ASALA is a terrorist offshoot of the Hunchaks.
In short, all progressive Armenian groups were to unite in the Lebanon and for the basis for an "ASALA Popular Movement".

 Commentary No. 18
The key actors on the Armenian side are the Armenian government, headed by Levon Ter Petrosian; the Armenian population of Karabakh; and, to a lesser degree, the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) and Armenian militias operating in Karabakh.
Instead, as might be predicted, Armenians began to leave the two regions, reducing the Armenian percentage of Nakhichevan's population to near zero and Karabakh's population to 75% by 1979, deepening Armenian anger.
Karabakh Armenians and several of their brethren in Armenia, Moscow and elsewhere sensed in late 1987 that the moment was ripe to secure the Kremlin's acquiescence in the reunification of Karabakh with Armenia.

However, the next act of ARA violence did not take place until 1983, when a Turkish Embassy attache was gunned down in Brussels, causing some to question whether the 1970 bombing was perpetrated by a completely different Armenian Revolutionary Army.

However, most analysts agree that a new Armenian terrorist group that began operating at that time, the Armenian Revolutionary Army (ARA), was simply the JCAG with a new name.
Although the last attack by the ARA in North America was in 1985, Turkey claims that Armenian terrorism still represents a threat against Turkish diplomatic targets abroad, and has encouraged foreign governments to take action against possible threats.
Turkish sources claim that the JCAG was a creation of the Tashnak Party / Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF), an Armenian political party exiled from the Soviet Union and committed to the reunification of a non-Communist Armenia.

ASALA: Terrorism as a Political Issue
The traditional Armenian parties in diaspora like the well known Tashnak were forced to set up guerilla groups of their own, like the Justice Commandos for Armenian Genocide and the Armenian Revolutionary Army, in order to stop their youth from flocking to Asala.
The establishment of Asala was a belated reaction to the Genocide the Armenian people underwent by the Turks, and an indirect result of the tranformation of Beirut into the terrorist capital during the 1970’s.
The roots of Asala can be traced in the accumulation of frustration resulted from the international community’s lack of interest in the Armenian genocide committed by the Turks in the course of World war I, and a tendency among western pro-Turkish scholars to deny the genocide as a historical fact.

ASALA is the most talked-about Armenian terrorist organization, in the new period of the Armenian terrorism between 1973 and 1985.
ASALA's relations were arranged, in line with the strategy they were implementing, by giving a priority to the non-Armenian terrorist organizations, which were in an attempt to pose a threat, and use terrorism against Turkey.
The Armenian terrorism was a part of the liberation struggles in the Middle East, and could unite with any movement against the integrity of Turkey.

Sixty years later, one Armenian response took the form of a terrorist organization calling itself the Armenian Secret Army for the Liberation of Armenia.
Beginning in 1975, the ASALA embarked on a monumental task: to force the Turkish government to: 1) admit responsibility for its crimes against the Armenian people, 2) to provide monetary compensation for those families affected by said crimes, and lastly, 3) to grant land for the creation of an Armenian homeland.

The Turkish government, which bore the brunt of the group's violence, claimed ASALA was a front formed by militants of more respectable Armenian diaspora groups such as the Dashnaks (though it was, of course, in their interest to have as many Armenian groups as possible tarred with the brush of a terrorist organization).
In the Summer and Fall of 1982, ASALA joined the Palestinians fighting the Israeli army (commanded by current Prime Minister Ariel Sharon) in Beirut.
Armenia itself - then a piece of the USSR - was to be turned into the base of operations for the liberation of Mount Ararat and the rest of the motherland occupied by Turkey.
