Lublin jest miastem wojewódzkim (województwo lubelskie) położonym na Wyżynie Lubelskiej, nad rzeką Bystrzycą - lewobrzeżnym dopływem Wieprza.
W swoich granicach Lublin posiada trzy lasy: największy Las Dąbrowa położony przy zbudowanym w 1974 roku sztucznym zbiorniku zwanym Zalewem Zemborzyckim, Stary Gaj położony na zachodzie miasta (jego częścią jest rezerwat brzozy czarnej w podlubelskim Stasinie Polnym) i najdalej na południe wysunięty Las Prawiedniki.
Lublin nie ma żadnego lotniska ze stałymi połączeniami samolotowymi.

 Prof Gerard Ciolek (1909-1966)
Following the end of World War I, and the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian empire, Wyznica was incorporated into Romania.
Consequently, in 1920, the Cioleks and their children: Gerard and Irma, left Bukovina for the newly established Republic of Poland, and settled in the southern city of Lublin.
