Armour or armor (see spelling differences) is protective clothing intended to defend its wearer from intentional harm in combat and military engagements, typically associated with soldiers.
In modern usage, Armour, or the armoured is also a heavily armoured military force or organization, such as heavy infantry or heavy cavalry (as opposed to light infantry or cavalry).
In modern armoured warfare, armoured units equipped with tanks serve the historic role of heavy cavalry, and belong to the armoured branch in a national army's organization (sometimes, the armoured corps).

The SRG is reported to consist of four brigades and has its own armour, air defence and artillery units.

It was though, the ability of armoured units to bring to bear relatively large, massive amounts of fairly discriminatory firepower that was extremely mobile, was the major reason why all participants in the war turned to its use.
As a consequence, whereas American armoured units often operated independently of infantry formations, the squadron of tanks and APC's which were part of the Australian Task Force operated primarily in close cooperation and support of the infantry force within the Task Force.

Thirty-six Lanchester armoured cars were completed by the end of March 1915 and were used to equip three squadrons of the R.N.A.S. All of these squadrons were in France by May and one of them later served with the Belgian Army.
This force had as its nucleus both in personnel and equipment the Lanchester squadron which had been supporting the Belgian Army and was supplemented by a heavy squadron of the R.N.A.S. and extra transport, many of the service vehicles being on Lanchester chassis.
Withdrawn from this area, the R.N.A.S. force was sent via the north shore of the Black Sea to support the Russians in Roumania and in Galicia (south Poland) where they were in action before the end of the year.

From 1684 to 1686 the regiment was known as The Queen's Regiment (of Foot) and in 1685 five companies of the Regiment were on the left flank of the Royalist forces during the defeat of the Duke of Monmouth and his rebels at the battle of Sedgemoor in July of that year 1685.
It was attached to 4th Armoured Brigade as part of 7th Armoured Division in November 1941 and served with this unit during Operation Crusader.
