Armoured trains were sometimes escorted by a kind of rail-tank called a draisine.
Armoured trains saw use during the 19th century in the American Civil War (1861-1865), the Franco-Prussian War (1870-1871), the Boer Wars (1880-81 and 1899-1902), and the First (1914-1918) and Second World Wars (1939-1945).
An armoured train named "Krajina ekspres" (Krajina express) was used during the war in Croatia (part of the Yugoslav succession wars) of the early 90-ies by the army of Republika Srpska Krajina (self proclaimed republic of Serbs living within Croatia that seeked to remain in Yugoslavia).

In rail transport, a train consists of a single or several connected rail vehicles that are capable of being moved together along a guideway to transport freight or passengers from one place to another along a planned route.
Military vehicles are commonly armoured to withstand the impact of shrapnel, bullets or shells, protecting the soldiers inside from enemy fire.
Armour thickness: probably about 12 mm, the sides might be covered with oak planks from the inside.

In September 1920 it was assigned to the armoured trains' unit at a disposal of the 15th Infantry Division of the 4th Army (along with armoured train "Wilk" - the Wolf).

In the early thirties, the train underwent some modernization, it received radio and signal equipment, and the locomotive was changed to the standard type Ti3 (the earlier locomotive type is not known).
The armoured train, as a military unit, consisted of: an armoured section (the armoured train in a strict meaning), a platoon of armoured draisines, and an unarmoured auxiliary section.
The armoured section and armoured draisines were the combat section of the armoured train, while the auxiliary section was supporting the operation of the combat section in respect of logistics and accommodation, and did not take part in combat.

They were heavily fortified with high palisades and machine gun ramparts and were in constant radio communication with the armoured trains or road patrols and at first our patrols were fairly routine and not too demanding, probably because of the enormous firepower protection of those trains.

As such it would have been a formidable oponent to land forces, though like all trains it was vulnerable to attacks on the tracks and from the air.
As this was a one-off, the account can go into considerable detail and the photos would give a modeller the chance to produce their own replica which would certainly be something different though even in small scale would be a big model.

During the whole spring the trains were used in fighting, and PZ 10b suffered some losses in crew and damages to the equipment.
Probably the train was abandoned by its crew, when it could not retreat because of a destroyed bridge on the Nida river.

This 6 unit train was specially built for carrying troops through war infested areas.
Wagons built in 1880's were converted at the Ajmer workshop of the Bombay Baroda and Central India Railway and provided with a 1/2" thick armoured plate followed by a 3" thick felt lining and another 3/4" thick plate thereby giving complete protection to its occupants.
Armed with 'Maxim guns', this train was in use during the first world war period.
