Of the fifteen structures surveyed within Armstrong Township, eight appear to be eligible for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places.
The most important stimulus for the development of Armstrong Township in the 19th Century was the farming industry.
After experiencing a decrease in population from 1885 to 1900, the Township's population began to increase at the turn of the 20th Century.

Claude, the county seat, is in the north central part of the county thirty miles east of Amarillo.
The county is crossed by three streams, the Prairie Dog Town Fork of the Red River in Palo Duro Canyon, the Salt Fork of the Red River, and Mulberry Creek, all of which run year-round to some degree.
County population dropped from 3,329 in 1930 to 2,495 in 1940 and 2,215 in 1950.

Armstrong County was created on March 12, 1800, from parts of Westmoreland County, Allegheny County, and Lycoming County.
The county seat of Kittanning, whose name was derived from the Indian word for "at the great stream," was laid out on a famous Delaware and Shawnee Indian settlement which was claimed by the Six Nations by conquest.
It was traversed by the western division of the Pennsylvania Canal and is the oldest non-Indian town in the county.

He pursued his studies at the Canonsburg Academy, and was licensed to preach the gospel June 25th, 1800, by the Presbytery of Ohio.
On June 17th, 1802, he was installed pastor of the congregations of Bull Creek and Middlesex, in Armstrong county, Pennsylvania.
He spent his life in ministerial labor with his people, and was laid to rest near the spot where he delivered his first sermon to the pioneers of Newton, in March, 1813.

Trolley service ended in Armstrong County in November of 1936.
The new overpass of the Pennsylvania Railroad at the southern end of Water Street in Kittanning was being built and it would have cost the trolley company too much money to move their rails over from Jefferson Street.
The other trolley line in Armstrong County traveled along the Kiskiminetas River between Leechburg and Apollo.
