ABRO repairs Challenger tanks for the British Army so a Tiger would not prove a problem but it did create a lot of interest.
ABRO decided that they would begin work on the turret first so it was removed from the Tank Museum in May 1999.

Its core workload is based on annual programmes developed by the army’s individual equipment managers for re-manufacture or in-depth repair of the inventory.
The ability to respond to urgent operational requirements is becoming increasingly important and ABRO’s multi-skilled workforce have the capabilities to switch seamlessly from one job to another, as specialised departments within the organisation's repair facilities undertake operationally urgent work.
ABRO is also able to undertake work on an on-demand basis extending from while-you-wait minor repairs to vehicles, small arms and electronic equipment to major unplanned repairs that cannot be undertaken at the first or second line.

The re-organised recovery and repair system was thoroughly tested during the remainder of the war, during which REME grew to be the largest technical corps, extending its activities to include the manufacture of spare parts and special equipments on a large scale.
The Army Air Corps was formed in 1958 and it became the task of REME to provide the field repair support for all aircraft used.

The Ministry of Defence has done much to improve the management of the major repair and overhaul of land equipment but there is more to do, including addressing the future role and shape of its in-house provider, the Army Base Repair Organisation (ABRO), Sir John Bourn, Head of the National Audit Office, told Parliament today.
For example, repair loop times are very long - it takes over 180 days on average from the time an item is sent from a unit for repair to the time it is repaired and returned to the depot.
A mixture of private sector providers and in-house agencies, principally the Army Base Repair Organisation, conduct the repairs on the Department’s behalf.The Department established ABRO as a Trading Fund on 1 April 2002.

A ten-year contract, worth over £120 Million, for the base inspection and repair of the Challenger 2 Main Battle Tank and Driver Training Tank was signed today between Vickers Defence Systems and the Defence Logistics Organisation (DLO) of the Ministry of Defence.
This level 4 repair process is designed to ensure the integrity of the CR2 hull structure on 19-25 tanks a year for a period of 10 years.
Mike Hayle, Chief Executive of ABRO said, ‘The signing of this agreement for the base inspection and repair of the Challenger 2 means that our front line troops will continue to be well served by this excellent tank.

The Sunday Telegraph has learnt that the Land Command, the organisation responsible for ensuring that British troops are properly equipped and trained to fight anywhere in the world, has been ordered to cut more than £40 million from its budget in the next eight months.
Cuts to other departments in the Army, in addition to the Royal Navy and the RAF, are now expected, as the annual £1.3 billion costs of operations in Iraq and Afghanistan begin to bite into the defence budget.
The document reveals that the building of a security fence at the Army's Dishforth air base, which is the home of 9 Regiment Army Air Corps, where Apache attack helicopters are based, has been cancelled because of the cash crisis.

BAE, which produced most of the British Army’s armored vehicle fleet, signed a strategic partnership with ABRO earlier this year that calls for the government company to supply in-service fleet support for new and legacy vehicles, with BAE acting as the prime contractor and design authority.
In addition, ABRO is closing two repair facilities at Colchester and Warminster, replacing them with smaller workshops integrated on 13 Army bases around the country.
