The Army Service Ribbon is a military decoration of the United States Army which was created in 1981.
For those service members who enlist in the Army after serving with another service (and who may not be required to complete initial entry training) the Army Service Ribbon is awarded after four months of active service.
The United States Air Force equivalent of the Army Service Ribbon is the Air Force Training Ribbon.

The Army Sea Duty Ribbon consists of a basic multicolored ribbon with bronze star appurtenances that signify the completion of qualifying periods of sea duty aboard Class A and Class B vessels that meet the requirements of Army Regulations 56-9 (Watercraft) and 600-88 (Sea Duty).
Ribbons should be available for sale in Army and Air Force Exchange Service stores around mid-September, according to Denise Harris, chief of policy in the awards branch of Human Resources Command.
Subsequent awards, as indicated by a bronze service star, are authorized for every two additional years of cumulative sea duty.

An Overseas Service Ribbon is a decoration of the United States military which recognizes those service members who have performed military tours of duty outside the borders of the United States of America.
For those Army service members performing overseas duty prior to 1981, the Army Overseas Service Ribbon may be awarded retroactively, provided that a service member was on active duty subsequent to 1981.
Additional awards of the Air Force Overseas Service Ribbon are denoted by oak leaf clusters and Air Force regulations permit the receipt and wear of both the short and long tour ribbons simultaneously.

Leroy E. Alexander, 27, of Dale City, Va., and Capt. Charles D. Robinson, 29, of Haddon Heights, N.J., were killed near Urgun district in eastern Paktika province on Friday when a bomb exploded near their vehicle, the military said in a statement.
Alexander’s mother, Felecia, traveled to Fayetteville, N.C., to be with her daughter-in-law after the Army notified the family of her son’s death.
