Paul Vallas, Duncan's predecessor as Chief Executive Officer, called the decision to appoint Duncan "an excellent choice." In a poll conducted by CBS and the Chicago Sun-Times, nearly 80 percent of Chicagoans surveyed said that they backed the choice of a person with Duncan's educational background.
