It is common knowledge in the Colorado climbing community that Aron Ralston, the guy who's famous for cutting his own forearm off in a Utah canyon, is working on a multi-year project to solo all Colorado fourteeners in winter.
Aron is almost done with his project, and I have always expected him to complete it and be the first to do winter solos of all 54 fourteeners that common wisdom counts as THE 54, as well as a few extra bonus peaks that Ralston is upping the count to 59 with.
Hamish told me he's always expected Aron to complete his project, and simply figured that IF he soloed his peaks, his all-in-one-winter project might somewhat parallel what Aron is doing, but is by no means any sort of direct competion.

Youngsters Aron Winter and Dennis Bergkamp are in the line-up, while coach Johan Cruijff still has to miss out on his injured captain, Marco van Basten.
The remaining two are scored by right-back Danny Blind, who finally starts to play comfortably at his new club, and Aron Winter, who turned 20 the day before the game and plays as if he has tons of experience.
This time De Meer is the venue, and this time it's a lot easier: before 9,000 spectators, Marco van Basten opens the scoring in the 6th minute, after which Aron Winter (him again!) and Van Basten (him again!) wrap it up in the latter stages of the game.

Only two people have climbed all of Colorado's Fourteeners in calendar winter, between the winter solstice and the vernal equinox: Tom Mereness, 57, of Boulder was the first, from 1976-1992, and his climbing partner and friend, Jim Bach, 52, also of Boulder, the second.
But Dawson, who put up the second winter ascent of Capitol's North Face with Michael Kennedy in the 1970s, makes a clear distinction between the dangers of skiing and climbing in the backcountry.
Last week, Ralston said he was putting the project on hold for the remaining two weeks of official winter (ending March 21), but then he reversed his opinion.
