Filmtracks: Around the World in 80 Days (Trevor Jones)
Teaching world music at the university level and often recording with the London Symphony Orchestra, Jones was nothing less than a brilliant choice for the composing duties of this film, regardless of its merits.
Had this version of Around the World in 80 Days been as intelligent and as long as the original 1956 film (3 hours), then Jones could have been presented with the most diverse and interesting scoring assignment of his career.
The title song is both decent and compatible with the score, incorporating a children's choir into a nice melody.

Around the World in 80 Days DVD Review
Computer-animated worlds sometimes act as a transitioning map, a location and day number occassionally remind us where we are (always in a different font), and fast-paced editing and zooms given this "Before the Turn of the Century" (though the century is not specified) piece a much modern look than its setting would merit.
Another drawback: Around the World relies heavily on slapstick, which is both comedically weak and unnecessary for the rest of the film.
"Around the World of Jackie Chan" (6:30) is a kind of fluffy featurette that centers on the the Chinese actor's slapstick and martial arts which figures so largely on the movie.

Attack of the 50 Foot DVD: (1965)
In all, if the filmmakers had intended to set themselves quite apart from the outlandishly expensive 1956 Michael Todd version, they succeeded, although in a "maybe the cans of film were in the same room as the book at one time" sort of way.
If one is not hopelessly disenchanted with the idea of a movie that takes extreme and wanton liberties with a book - which is, let's face it, the norm in Hollywood - this is an entertaining way to pass a couple of hours.
It's likely this is Jackie Chan's swan song for western filmmaking, and it's good that he ends this chapter of his career on a high note, rather than muck like The Tuxedo or The Medallion.

 EUROVISION SONG CONTEST
All songs must still be three-minutes or less in length, although many artists record the song in a longer version, simply performing a shorter version at the Contest.
Bizarrely, the UK's song was chosen after the date of the international final but the EBU adopted the idea of contacting the international juries by telephone and this was introduced in 1957 and used until 1993.
However, it should be remembered that as viewers only vote for one song, this issue would only have affected the voting if a substantial number of people had had the British entry as their favourite but decided not to vote for it because of the war.

West Side Story, his modern-day musical version (with lyricist Stephen Sondheim) of Shakespeare's Rome and Juliet, is his best known music - it even has its own website, and it's widely performed in full theatrical production and also in dance form.
The May schedule covers the full range, from his 1956 comic operetta Candide, which opened in New York this week at the Philharmonic, to his Chichester Psalms choral work to a violin sonata.
One of Bernstein’s works that is apparently not being performed in the next few months is a song cycle that debuted in 1943 (the same year he joined the NY Philharmonic).

Around the World in 80 Days is a curious beast, mixing genres as it plods along throughout its near two-hour and often torturous running time.
I have no idea who performs it but the song is bloody awful, though for anyone interested it seems to be presented in the original Full Frame aspect ratio with a crisp transfer and clean stereo sound.
A wasted opportunity Around the World in 80 Days fails to impress on basic action adventure terms, but also furthers concerns amongst fans that Jackie’s days at the top of his game are numbered be they down to physical restrictions on his part or studio restrictions on his methods.

Vocal harmony Christmas music from around the world
Whether the groups are singing the Holiday music well-known around the planet, or the lovely music indigenous to one particular country, the music is wonderful and the message is communicated in any language.
With a healthy humor, as evidenced by songs like "Sainsbury Rag" (Sainsbury's is a chain of food shops in the U.K.), and in down-to-earth close harmony (their pitch is rock solid, but their style emerged from the pub and the moor, not the opera house), "Paper Angels" features fresh, quirky holiday-themed material.
Highlights include Tec Peleite Zernju Zogtu, an ancient Latgalian (Eastern Latvian) Winter Solstice song invoking the god of the heavens and the goddess of the Sun; Koledni Pesni, a medley of Bulgarian folk carols recalling the nativity sung in the traditional antiphonal village style; and Byla Cesta, a poignant 19th-century Moravian carol.
