.NET: Array Types in .NET -- MSDN Magazine, February 2002
This means that all arrays are always reference types which are allocated on the managed heap, and your app's variable contains a reference to the array and not the array itself.
For the cast to succeed, both array types must have the same number of dimensions and there must be an implicit or explicit conversion from the source element type to the target element type.
Array's static CreateInstance method allows you to dynamically construct an array when you don't know at compile time the types of elements that the array is to maintain.

 Scenes from a Revolution
But if anyone had foreseen that the original DVD would be around in the public hands, Demme's studio would never have raised the finance, let alone the enthusiasm, for an otiose update.
Among the haughtier auteurs, DVD is the route to self-obsession.
These fillers distance the DVD from the original film in much the same way as an audio disc is removed from live music.

Ultimate AV: Oppo OPDV971H DVD Player
Many DVD players (most but not all of them more costly than the Oppo) will upconvert the data on the disc to one of several HD resolutions accessible from their digital video outputs.
The upconversion adds new pixels to produce a pixel array that matches the horizontal and vertical pixel count of your digital display—its "native rate".
While all digital displays can perform this native-rate conversion on their own, even from a lowly 480i source (they have to, otherwise the image would not fit the screen!), there may be situations in which the upconversion circuitry in the player will do a better job of it.

Especially DVD is such an inexpensive format and uses much less shelf space than Laserdisc, which is very important, especially for video stores.
Bay was especially surprised to hear that Criterion have lost much of their reputation in the DVD ranks due to the fact that they ignore people’s comments and do not utilize DVD’s capabilities to its maximum.
His films are perfect showcases for the capabilities of DVD with their stunning use of color, the fast paced editing style and the bombastic sounds supporting the images.

DVD video has exceptional color fidelity, so muddy or washed-out colors are almost always a problem in the display (or the original source), not in the DVD player or disc.
DVD will not degrade with age or after many playings like videotape will (which is an advantage for parents with kids who watch Disney videos twice a week!).
The DVD specification recommends that discs be stored at a temperature between -20 to 50 °C (-4 to 122 °F) with less than 15 °C (27 °F) variation per hour, at relative humidity of 5% to 90%.

DVD Mastering Using QDVDAuthor | Linux Journal
Recently, I had the opportunity and the spare time to revisit the field of Linux DVD authoring and was pleasantly surprised by what I found.
Although the command-line tools for DVD authoring have long had the technical capability to construct a complex menu-driven DVD, the GUI tools suitable for use by end users and artists have been sorely lacking.
Its current major weakness (namely, the obscure manner in which it gives direct access to the DVD file structure for hacker-level tweaking) was not of concern to me as I was not looking to put together a commentary track or hide easter eggs.

Our random error track, which quite a few DVD players have had little trouble with, caused the DVD-C900 to skip ahead after 30 seconds, and lock up completely at the 37-second mark, surprisingly poor performance given the excellent tracking of the Verany disc.

Audio Ideas Guide Hi-Fi and Home Theater Equipment Reviews: Dahlquist Acoustix System One Dynamic Array
The response of this speaker is indeed tailored somewhat, but I would say it is done in a positive manner.
This is a benefit of the near absence of front baffles and resulting diffraction in the horizontal plane; these tweeters operate largely as point sources, and image like they should, while the multiple midrange drivers provide line-source energy as well.
The subwoofer worked well with the system, though with discrete Dolby Digital both speaker-in and line-in connections will be required for DVD use to accommodate the special LFE output.

Home Theater: CyberHome Prism DVD Player
Clearly touted as part of a budget line, the CyberHome Prism DVD player (model MP016-AW2) is an extremely compact, stylish component that can either disappear into just a bit of shelf space or become a conversation piece with its clear top window and snazzy blue interior light.
It was very digital, with the kind of appearance that viewers might have overlooked in DVD's first generation or on computer DVD playback but which is tough to ignore in the living room.
This is definitely a convenient way for the uninitiated to jump aboard the DVD Express, and I suppose that the Prism just nudges the concept of an entry-level player in a slightly different direction.

Slant Magazine - DVD Review: Before Stonewall
Released in 1985, it helped put a halt on the notion that homosexuality was a product of societal moral decay, a tactical assertion gay rights opponents would sometimes try to insinuate based on a supposed lack of overwhelming historical evidence to the contrary.
Motorcycle-riding Native American advocate Dorothy (Smilie) Hillaire tells a compelling tale of how she was harassed by men in a bar until she dropped a glass ashtray on their leader's skull.
Unlike After Stonewall (a recent PBS companion piece that basically ends with the murder of Matthew Shepard), this is a documentary that can tell the sometimes bitter truth and still conclude with an unambiguously heartening flourish.

I had avoided home-entertainment centers because I figured the setup would be horrible; this one took me five minutes without once peeking at the manual, thanks to Sony's user-friendly design and attention to detail (down to the color-coded wires).
True, five sets now ran from the thin DVD receiver to speakers flanking the TV, then cascaded across the floor to other speakers behind the couch and to the big subwoofer that sat like a hound in the center of the floor.
What your home-entertainment center wants is something that can show off its sound system: warbling aliens, metal being ripped asunder, explosions whose concussive booms start at your toes and rumble across the den and into the kitchen, where they look in the fridge for something to eat.

Paste Magazine :: Review :: Au Hasard Balthazar/L'Argent (DVD) :: Directed by Robert Bresson (Page 1)
But Bresson’s approach is far from didactic—his sober observation of his characters, their matter-of-fact response to life decisions, and his appreciation for the unpredictability of human behavior frees his film from any sense of dramatic rigidity.
The film exhibits unique story structure, juxtaposing the life of a donkey named Balthazar with the life of a teenaged girl named Marie, both of them forging their way through the difficulties of modernity.
But his films are, astonishingly, true to the human experience and avail themselves to all who would look and listen.
