The Arsenal VG 33 was a fast light fighter which arrived too late to see service in the Armée de l'Air during the Battle of France.
In larger quantities, this plane could have shown the Luftwaffe a rough time, but as was the case for most French planes, production problems plagued the VG-33 such that only 160 aircraft were close to completion before the Armistice, with just 19 of 44 produced actually taken on by the Armée de l'Air.
The original specification that led to the VG series was offered in 1936 in order to quickly raise the number of modern aircraft in French service, by supplying a "light fighter" of wooden construction that could be built rapidly in large numbers.

On the forefront stood engineer Michel Vernisse, but the majority of Arsenal´s aircraft was designed by engineer Jean Galtier - the first letters of their surnames producing the common abbreviation VG.

The Arsenal fighter was a low-wing, single-seat aircraft with retractable landing gear.
While production of the VG-33 was launched, Arsenal went ahead with, the development phase of the project, with the aim of improving its potential still further.
In the spring of 1940, a prototype appeared, designated VG-34 and provided with a 910 hp Hispano-Suiza engine: this aircraft reached a maximum speed of 327 mph at an altitude of 20,395 ft. The subsequent VG-35 prototype was characterized by even more powerful engine, while the radiator and landing gear of the VG-36 w modified.

This aircraft represents a Arsenal VG-33 in fictional unit markings.
The VG-33 was probably the best French fighter design during 1940 and could have inflicted heavier losses to the Luftwaffe, if it had been produced in greater numbers.
Unfortunately, the Arsenal fighter, which was still under development, did not get priority and the project was stopped.

The contract resulted in three designs, the Arsenal VG-30, the Bloch MB-700, and the C.710.
The original C.710 model was an angular looking design developed from an earlier racing design series.
