The Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) is an art museum on the eastern edge of Toronto's downtown Chinatown district, on Dundas Street West between McCaul Street and Beverley Street.
An art gallery or art museum is a space for the exhibition of art, usually visual art, and usually primarily paintings and sculpture.
The AGO was founded in 1900 by a group of private citizens, as the Art Museum of Toronto.

The architectural form of the art gallery was established by Sir John Soane with his design for the Dulwich Picture Gallery in 1817.
Art galleries were built alongside museums and public libraries as part of the municipal drive for literacy and public education.

TORONTO –; Staff at the Art Gallery of Ontario have voted by a margin of more than 95 per cent to strike if they cannot reach a fair contract settlement.
Gallery management has offered a zero per cent increase for three years effective from the date of ratification of a new contract.
The Gallery is increasing its use of volunteers, students, interns and plans to contract out work that could be done by existing employees.
