Art Institute of Chicago is one of the premier art educational facilities in the United States.
The School of the Art Institute of Chicago is a professional college of the visual and related arts, accredited since 1936 by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, and since 1944 (charter member) by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design.
With the announcement of the World's Columbian Exposition to be held in 1892–93, the Art Institute pressed for a building on the lakefront to be constructed for the fair, but to be used by the Institute afterwards.

On the western edge of Grant Park in Chicago, Illinois is the Art Institute of Chicago, one of the premier art museums and schools in the United States.
The Art Institute first opened as the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts in 1879 at the corner of Michigan Avenue and Van Buren Street.
The Art Institute is most well known for its collection of impressionist art, which includes such masterpieces as Georges Seurat's Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte (1884) as well as such 20th-century American masterpieces as Grant Wood's American Gothic and Edward Hopper's Nighthawks.
