Artemisia (plant) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Artemisia is a large, diverse genus of plants with between 200-400 species belonging to the daisy family Asteraceae.
Artemisia species are used as food plants by the larvae of a number of Lepidoptera species.
Artemisia absinthium (Absinth Wormwood) was used to repel fleas and moths, and in brewing (wormwood beer, wormwood wine).

 Artemisia
But, we have Artemisias native to our United States too, important artemisias like A. tridentata that covers vast areas of Utah, Wyoming and Montana and varieties of A. vulgaris that can be found throughout the west.
Other Artemisias we have come to unappreciate for landscaping are A. pontica (Roman Wormwood), A. frigida (Fringed Wormwood), A. vulgaris (Mugwort), and A. ludoviciana (Silver King).
Artemisias are named after Artemis, the goddess of hunting, Artemesia was the daughter of a Greek Father and a Cretan Mother.

Artemis is said to carry a quiver of silver arrows and many plants of the Artemisia genus have silver foliage, making them perfect for reflecting moonlight.
To incorporate more Artemisias, the Russia sage or one of the Wormwood plants could be replaced with Mugwort, and the Lamb's Ears could easily be replaced with Tarragon.
The botanical name of Silver Mound is usually listed as Artemisia schmidtiana instead of Artemisia caucasica as seen in the design picture, but you are in luck! Most nurseries, garden centers and other shops carry silver mound as just that, "Silver Mound" and you won't have to remember any Latin to find it.

Artemisia ludoviciana and its allies comprise a complex of 10 species including 7 subspecies.
Our analysis resulted in the North American taxa forming a highly supported clade within series Artemisia (sensu lato) and show a sister relationship to the Eurasian taxa sampled including the North American species Artemisia palmeri.
We found a low amount of phylogenetically informative sites amongst the ITS sequences of the complex and attribute this to a recent origin of the group.
