 King Arthur (film) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
King Arthur is a film first released in the United States on June 28, 2004, dubbed as "The Untold True Story That Inspired The Legend" by Touchstone Pictures.
It would appear that the Arthur depicted in the film is based most closely upon Ambrosius Aurelianus, the Romano-Briton who fought against the Saxons in the 5th century, and was probably the leader of the Romano-British and Celts at the Battle of Mons Badonicus.
It is notable that it is Merlin, rather than a Christian priest, who marries Arthur and Guinevere at the end, and that Arthur, one of the film's few "good" Christian characters, is shown as a follower of a sect deemed heretical by the Roman pope.

 King Arthur Review :: Hollywood.com
In the Dark Ages, Arthur (Clive Owen) is the Roman commander of a band of Sarmatian warriors who, after losing a key battle to the Romans, were forced to join the Empire's Special Forces unit and sent to Britain to defend Roman holdings from the encroaching Saxons and the uprising Britons.
With the Saxons on their heels, Arthur decides to not just rescue the family but hundreds of slaves at the same time--including Guinevere (Keira Knightley) and her mysterious shaman Merlin (Stephen Dillane), who convince Arthur to join the Britons in their fight against the Saxons instead of going home.
Judging by the studio promotion you would think Guinevere is the film's main character, but she is only introduced some 40 minutes into the film.

His “Arthur” is a story told in the misty and snowy mountains of Britain, a land caked in mud and rain, and ruled by many.
What’s even more curious is the film’s marketing angle, which places central focus on Keira Knightley, yet it takes the picture an hour to get to her, then pushes the actress into the background for the rest of the show.

As for the glimmerings of democracy, the film's Arthur evidently entertains inchoate notions about the separation of church and state, political and ethnic equality, and something called freedom.

In truth the film should have been titled "Arturius Rex" given the time frame and the Roman elements, and that put Zimmer into fairly comfortable musical territory given his triumph with "Galdiator." This is more of a true orchestral score that is both action oriented and melodic.
The film is an interesting interpretation of the legend (within acceptable parameters) and the score by Hans Zimmer is fine.
Now other problems with score itself is that it uses the King Arthur theme perhaps far too much through all seven lengthy tracks, it does grow steadily annoying until the end (then its not so annoying).
