Arthur Johnston - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Johnston is thought to have begun his university studies at one, or both, of the colleges at Aberdeen, but around 1608 he went to Italy and received an M.D. at Padua in 1610.
Afterwards he lived at Sedan, France, in the company of the exiled Andrew Melville, and in 1619 was in practice in Paris.
Johnston was encouraged by Laud in his literary efforts, possibly as a strike against George Buchanan's reputation as a Latin poet.

Significant Scots - Dr Arthur Johnstone   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-08)
He was the fifth son of George Johnston of that ilk and of Caskieben, the chief of the family of Johnston, by Christian Forbes, daughter of William, seventh baron Forbes.
Johnston, intending to study medicine, a science which it would have been in vain at that period to have attempted in Scotland, proceeded to Rome, and afterwards to Padua, where he seems to have acquired some celebrity for the beauty of his earlier Latin poems, and took the degree of doctor in medicine.
Johnston has been universally allowed to have been the more accurate translator, and few exceptions can be found to the purity of his language, while he certainly has not displayed either the richness, or the majesty of Buchanan.

Energy Resources Australia was given the go-ahead on March 31 by the Commonwealth supervising scientist, Dr Arthur Johnston, and the Northern Territory government, to resume operations at the mine.
While Johnston claimed the level of radiation contamination that the workers “could have received resulting from the ingestion or consumption of water [was] actually very low”, he failed to convince many.
Johnston also argued that there had been no contamination of Kakadu National Park and that it was safe for the traditional owners to drink water and collect food downstream from the mine.
