In September 1966, during the mayoralty of Alderman Harry Perry, George Plunkett was made a freeman of the City of Norwich, by inheriting the honour from his father.
In September 1987 George Plunkett had a book published by Daltons of Lavenham entitled Disappearing Norwich illustrated by 120 photographs taken by himself mainly during the 1930’s when slum-clearance and street-widening were responsible for the demolition of many buildings of architectural or historical importance.

Between 1924 and 1926, on behalf of Sir Douglas Fox and Partners, Consulting Engineers, he took charge of the office in which the designs and erection schemes for Dorman Long & Co's bridge contracts were prepared, he prepared 3 preliminary designs for the bridge.
Plunkett never actually visited the bridge before he died in London of throat cancer on 13 August 1937.

During the trial, Gass described Plunkett as a "doofus" because he was the type of person who, although not a killer, would get caught driving a stolen car.
