The decision by the Liberals, CIO members and Communists to collaborate was ironic given Hepburn's vociferous opposition to both Communism and the Congress of Industrial Organizations during his term as Premier of Ontario.
Another unsuccessful "Liberal-Labour" candidate was Arthur Reaume, mayor of Windsor, who had been a long time Tory and had run for George Drew's Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario in 1943 provincial election.
Reaume ran again as "Liberal-Labour" in the 1948 provincial election, without success, and was finally elected in the 1951 povincial election as a "Liberal"

Although Art Reaume’s political career in Windsor lasted until 1967, (shown at left) his reputation was never the same after the police commission probe in 1950.
Reaume replied that yes, he had gone to the park on a bitterly cold day where about 100 men on relief were working.
As a member of the Police Commission, Reaume sat in on the hearings, and yet when he challenged Hanrahan that some of the accusations might just be hearsay, the Magistrate was outraged that the Mayor was not taking these charges seriously.

It was Arthur's sole connection with the outside world and its only means of receiving supplies and the shipping out of livestock, hay, grain, etc. The gentleman in the foreground of the picture (standing between the tracks with a cane in his left hand) is Thomas Harcourt.
It served until around the turn of the century when a new one was built on the south side of the tracks, then the old building became the freight shed.
According to OLA Junior "A" Commissioner Dean McLeod, the Junior "A" Draft was initiated in 1976 as a vehicle to provide the top graduating, non-affiliated Midget players with an opportunity to showcase their skills at the Junior "A" level.
