Arthur Rubinstein (January 28, 1887 – December 20, 1982) was a Polish pianist who is widely considered as one of the greatest piano virtuosos of the 20th Century.
Rubinstein was born Artur Rubinstein in Łódź, Poland to a Jewish family, and studied in Warsaw.
Rubinstein was married in 1932 to Aniela (Nela) Mlynarska, daughter of conductor Emil Mlynarski and ex-wife of Mieczyslaw Munz.

It is curious that Rubinstein should have been dismissed as a mere virtuoso when he arrived on the scene, for the pianist himself later acknowledged that his technical command was not at all what it should have been.
Although Rubinstein married the former Aniela Mlynarska in 1932, he carried on numerous affairs throughout their union and finally dropped her altogether in the mid-1970s, when he was almost 90, after which he took up with a much younger woman, Annabelle Whitestone.
Rubinstein continued to grow in artistic stature until he was well into his eighties, and his most consistent single decade was undoubtedly the 1960s.

Rubinstein’s concert works are Octet for Percussion, commissioned by the Berlin Jazz Festival and Breugel: Dance Visions, a four-movement suite for tuba and chamber orchestra, commissioned and recorded by Jim Self for his solo album, Changing Colors.

These decisions were made by Rubinstein himself, and although they may have led to a more pronounced variety of talent recognition, it leaves fans wanting a little more.
The song in the middle, however out of place, is an acceptable tribute to the mid-80s, and is followed by the most interesting score track, "Are the Russians Coming?" The militaristic percussion that had been drowning the album by itself previously is now accompanied by a deep male chorus.
The sound quality is suspect in parts, however the recording came directly from the only tapes that Rubinstein had at the time.

Nick of Time, directed by John Badham, was a film presented in "real-time" - so the music needed to not only provide an emotional canvas for the movie, but it also needed to remind the audience that this was all happening now.
Overall, this is more of a dramatic score than a dark-brooding one, and allows the listener to get a sense of what Rubinstein could accomplish on a Western film.
