 Woodburn Hall WVU's Historic Centerpiece
"From the moment you walk into Woodburn you have a sense of grandeur, of the history of this place, of an educational institution with humble beginnings which has endured more than 130 years, and of a building that is nearly as old," Nellis says.
Nellis considers how Woodburn Hall—the headquarters, so to speak, of the liberal arts and sciences at WVU—bridges the traditions and ideals of a liberal arts education with the technologically advanced facilities needed by a higher education institution to teach 21st century science, earn research dollars, and attract outstanding faculty members and students.
In Woodburn Hall, instructors of all academic ranks and disciplines—teaching assistants to chaired professors, romantic literature to quantum mechanics —have influenced students of varied backgrounds and levels of ability.

 H. P. Lovecraft - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It was probably the influence of Arthur Machen, with his carefully constructed tales concerning the survival of ancient evil, and his mystic beliefs in hidden mysteries which lay behind reality, that finally helped inspire Lovecraft to find his own voice from 1923 onwards.
This took on a dark tone with the creation of what is today often called the Cthulhu Mythos, a pantheon of alien extra-dimensional deities and horrors which predate humanity, and which are hinted at in aeon-old myths and legends.
Physical and mental degradation often come together; this theme of 'tainted blood' may represent concerns relating to Lovecraft's own family history, particularly the death of his father due to what Lovecraft must have suspected to be a syphilitic disorder.

Everything you always wanted to know about the Survey of Consumer Finances
One frame is a standard multi-stage area probability sample of households in the U.S. The second frame uses a special list sample drawn from a sample of tax records that is intended to oversample households that are more likely to be wealthy.
These issues are extremely relevant to the SCF because (1) the survey collects sensitive data on household assets, liabilities, and financial behavior and (2) the survey oversamples households that are more likely to be wealthy (Kennickell, 1997).
Several researchers at the Federal Reserve Board have estimated the distribution of wealth in the U.S. from SCF data (Kennickell, McManus and Woodburn, 1996; Fries, Woodburn and Johnson, 1996).
