The Articles were drafted by the First Continental Congress in 1774 and were an important formative document in the history of the United States that perhaps hastened the American Revolution, though it was intended to alter Britain's policies towards the colonies without severing allegiance.
The Articles of Association was one of the major accomplishments of the First Continental Congress, which convened on September 5, 1774 in Philadelphia; the Articles were dated on October 20 of that year.
Of the 13 colonies, all were represented by the Articles except for the Province of Georgia, which did not send delegates to the Congress until 1775.

Montreal, The Americans and Benjamin Franklin
It is interesting to note that Montgomery's occupation of the City of Montreal is still recalled by a tablet of his headquarters on an old stone house on rue Notre Dame.
Benjamin Franklin was sent to Montreal a few months after the American invasion in order to see if he could win the support of the citizens.
One of the side consequences of Benjamin Franklin's trip to Montreal was the establishment of the craft of printing in Montreal which eventually led to the founding of the Montreal Gazette.

COMMENT: New perspectives in Libertarian Thought   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-09)
The "Federal Constitution" -- itself a centralistic and nationalistic reaction to the regionally and locally oriented Articles of Confederation of the 1780s -- advanced the doctrine of a "separation of powers" that placed the national legislature, executive, and judiciary in an offsetting relationship to each other.
Valid conflicting interests that reflect valid differences and contradictions in status at every level of social life are totalitarianized rather than resolved within a framework of equity and reciprocity.
To close discourse on these issues by viewing civic activities as a capitulation to bourgeois politics is to ignore very compelling realities about the civic sphere itself -- or to use more traditional anarchistic terms, the communitarian sphere itself.

The Old Northwest - Federick Austin Ogg - Adobe Reader eBooks
The fall of Montreal, on September 8, 1760, while the plains about the city were still dotted with the white tents of the victorious English and colonial troops, was indeed an event of the deepest consequence to America and to the world.
By the articles of capitulation which were signed by the Marquis de Vaudreuil, Governor of New France, Canada and all its dependencies west-ward to the Mississippi passed to the British Crown.
With an ingenuity born of necessity, the French pathfinders and colonizers of the Old Northwest had chosen for their settlements sites which would serve at once the purposes of the priest, the trader, and the soldier; and with scarcely an exception these sites are as important today as when they were first selected.

If the American military withdrew, the entire US-vetted government, parliament and state apparatus would collapse in the face of the popular backlash against those who have collaborated with the invasion and subjugation of the country.

Two different letters confirming the surrender followed, along with the Articles of Capitulation and casualty listings for the British and American troops.
Because the English controlled the territory between their advancing armies and the main colonial ports, news of the invasion of Canada appeared weekly, despite the fact that a writer to the Boston Gazette claimed, "it will be very difficult for a weekly news writer to keep pace" with the advancing army.
Newspapers grew at twice the rate of the American population in the period leading up to the capitulation of Canada, no doubt because of the desire for news about the war, a fact confirmed by Isaiah Thomas, first American media historian and a printer's apprentice during the war.
