Rufus Grove becomes the Artimus Pyle Band for those shows where Pyle is the headman, recreating the glory days of Lynyrd Skynyrd and southern rock.
At other shows, it is a Rufus Grove gig, and Pyle becomes just one of the guys, adding percussion to their already rhythmic mix of classic rock and original tunes.
The album is currently in the mixing stage and the band hopes to have it in their hands by the end of the summer.

Artimus Pyle, longtime drummer from Lynyrd Skynyrd, and his band APB (All Points Bulletin) played an awesome show at Jerry Garcia's Birthday Party-full of Skynyrd Tunes, Originals, and a great Shakedown Street cover.
With Pyle filling in for regular drummer Bob Burns, the band recorded "Saturday Night Special," and Pyle made his live debut with the band at Sgt. Pepper's Club, in Jacksonville, in October 1974.
Fate played a cruel joke on Pyle when he was finally ready to take up his sticks again; he was set to play for the Rosington Collins Band when he was involved in a serious motorcycle crash.

During that time, Pyle toured with other surviving members of Lynyrd Skynyrd to mark the 10-year anniversary of the plane crash and the deaths of band members Ronnie VanZant, Steve and Cassie Gaines and road manager Dean Kilpatrick.
Pyle, 55, known for his double bass drumming style, got a few breaks as a session musician in the early 1970s playing for the Charlie Daniels and Marshall Tucker bands.

Aside from their moniker, Artimus Pyle have jack shit in common with the likes of Lynyrd Skynyrd; perhaps a doom-laden aura that surrounds them could be seen as a commonality, but that is about as close as it gets.
The atrocities Artimus Pyle attempt to address are from their view as individuals, and the subsequent recognition and reaction are aimed at the individual as well.
The listener may not understand what the thought is as a whole, but there is an obvious need for Artimus Pyle to vent their anger and frustration, and one can be nothing but overwhelmed at the conviction with which they do so.

Artimus Pyle was the drummer for Lynyrd Skynyrd (I believe), though apparently that has nothing to do with this band.
This Artimus Pyle plays a blazing crust-punk hardcore style, augmented with more than occasional nods to early Neurosis and the Melvins.
I like the mixed bag of musical elements on Civil Dead - it's obvious that Artimus Pyle are out solely to unleash their aggression and emotion, not to satisfy a scene, and that earns big points with this reviewer.

One thing that immediately impresses me (as these quick songs leave one with quick impressions) is that Artimus Pyle plays true hardcore (read: no traces of metal), yet also manage to keep it fresh and interesting.
So while they seemingly have an orthodox view on the style of music they play, they manage to be very creative and engaging within the limits of their chosen genre.
A three-piece, Artimus Pyle nonetheless have a truly massive and menacing sound, especially when they ease into the slower rumble portions of the songs.
