After a grueling escape on secret passages through the mountains, the survivors from Gondolin came to Arvernien at the mouth of Sirion, where Eärendil became a friend of Círdan and discovered his love for the sea.
After their departure, Eärendil became the lord of Arvernien and wed Elwing daughter of Dior, who carried the blood of the Ainur in her veins.
Then the sons of Fëanor fell upon the survivors in Arvernien, seeking the Silmaril which Elwing had brought with her people, and Elwing threw herself into the sea with the Silmaril, lest it would fall into their hands.

However this dialect was also quite recognisable, so that even after Túrin had left Doriath he kept a Doriathrin accent until his death, which immediately pinpointed his origin to speakers of other variants of Sindarin.
Doriathrin became extinct at the end of the First Age after Beleriand was destroyed, although some of the oldest written material preserved in Númenor was written in this dialect, likely taken by refugees from Doriath to Arvernien, and from there to Númenor.

That was, of course, the poem which prompted Aragorn to tell Bilbo that "if he had the cheek to write verses about Eärendil in the house of Elrond, that was his affair" (Eärendil was Elrond's father).
Note, by the way, the same rhyme-scheme as in "Errantry": "Arvernien" with "to journey in," and "lanterns made" with "banners laid."
We might even wonder if these are versions of the same poem, or merely two separate poems in the same meter.
