The ordinary asafetida of the Indian bazaars is known in the superior grade as Hing, in the inferior grade as Hingra.
Asafetida is sometimes kept in a powdered state, but this is objectionable, as the drug is thus necessarily weakened by the loss of volatile oil, and is more liable to adulteration.
For this purpose the emulsion of asafetida in the proportion of from one-half to one fluidounce to a pint of water may be employed.
