  Shukkeien Garden
Construction of Shukkeien was begun in 1620, the year following Asano Nagaakira’s installation as Daimyō; (feudal lord) of Hiroshima.
It was built by his principal retainer, Ueda Sōko, a famous master of the tea ceremony, as the garden of Nagaakira’s villa.
This cottage was especially beloved by many generations of daimyō; of the Asano clan.

Nagamasa was a son of Yasui Shigetsugu and a grandson of Asano Nagakatsu and was adopted into the Asano family.
Nagaakira succeeded his elder brother Yukinaga and resided at Fuchu in Kai Province.
Nagaakira not only remained loyal to the Tokugawa but reportedly took 44 heads in the sieges of Osaka Castle (1614, 1615).
