		Asante's greatest contribution is generally considered to be his theory of Afrocentricity, a re-examination of traditional scholarship from the perspective of African and African diasporal peoples.
		Asante's early contributions to the theory of cultural diversity in the 70s and 80s is not as widely known.
		He has been enstooled as a traditional king, Nana Okru Asante Peasah, Kyldomhene,in Tafo, Akyem, Ghana (1995) and was invited to address an African Union Conference of Intellectuals of Africa and the Diaspora at Dakar (2004).

		Asante's notion that family and community mean more to African Americans is lost on me. Family is one of the values which is very strong in our family (and may be one factor leading to why Asante chooses to associate Africans with Romans).
		Asante moves on to recognize this sense of harmony along with tradition as keys to Afrocentric ideology in that they stress the plight of the community rather than the individual.

		It was not until the end of the 17th century, however, that the grand Asante Kingdom emerged in the central forest region of Ghana, when several small states united under the Chief of Kumasi in a move to achieve political freedom from the Denkyira.
		In return for acting as the middlemen in the slave trade, the Asante received firearms, which were used to increase their already dominant power, and various luxury goods that were incorporated into Asante symbols of status and political office.
		The stool was presented to the people after the defeat of the Denkyira, and Anokye declared that it contained the spirit of the whole of the Asante nation and that all of the strength of the nation depended on the safety of the stool.
