An ascus (plural asci) is the spore-bearing container produced in the ascocarp (Mature fruiting body of an ascomycetous fungus) s of ascomycete (Any fungus of the class Ascomycetes (or subdivision Ascomycota) in which the spores are formed inside an ascus) fungi (The taxonomic kingdom of lower plants).
