 BBC - h2g2 - Asexuality
Those asexuals who do have sex or masturbate do not think about people during the act; some enjoy the sensation, some have a fetish, and some just let their minds wander and work out what tomorrow's dinner will be or when the car should next be serviced.
Some asexuals are not too bothered about sex, but will go through with it because they like giving pleasure to their partner, and others will because they love their partner and are willing to have sex in order to stay with them.
As asexuality is so rarely heard of and is largely unknown, young asexuals growing up notice that they are different to their peers and assume that they are horribly broken, deficit in some way, and need to be 'cured'.

Asexuality - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Asexuality is a general term or self-designation for people who lack sexual attraction or otherwise find sexual behavior unappealing.
Others assert that because their asexuality does not cause them distress it should not be viewed as a disorder.
Alongside this is the debate as to whether the term 'asexual' is an accurate term, given its use in biology to describe a species that reproduces from a single member, whereas in this context pertains to an organism not reproducing at all.

Asexuality seems to be making a name for itself in sexual orientation, just like homosexuality or heterosexuality.
In no way does this suggest that asexual people do not find love or happiness, but it may suggest the possibility of finding a new level of intimacy and closeness to a special someone is possible without physicality.

Recently, however, an asexual cat has been put among the pigeons: a psychologist from Canada's Brock University recently reanalysed a decade-old study of 18,000 people in the UK, revealing that around one person in 100 claimed to have never 'felt sexually attractive to anyone at all'.
Of the 180 people who put claim to asexuality in the survey mentioned earlier, a little shy of half of that group were, or had been, in long-term co-habiting partnerships.
But with asexuality a subject that's only very recently been given a serious public airing, it's probably safe to assume that a considerable percentage of those who ticked that box (and, by extension, their partners) had been playing at happy families rather than living the dream.

Asexuality: prevalence and associated factors in a national probability sample Journal of Sex Research - Find Articles
Asexuality, in contrast, can be defined as the absence of a traditional sexual orientation, in which an individual would exhibit little or no sexual attraction to males or females.
Note that the definition of asexuality here concerns a lack of sexual attraction to either sex and not necessarily a lack of sexual behavior with either sex or self-identification as an asexual.
A very low level of asexuality is also predicted from evolutionary models of human behavior because one would expect strong selection pressures against such nonreproductive tendencies.

Because asexuals are not attracted to either sex, labels like "straight", "gay", and "bi-" have less and less salience as the level of sexual desire decreases, therefore the sexual spectrum becomes narrower and tapers to a single point, which is complete asexuality.

Many Leather Spinsters consider themselves asexual, another way of saying that sexual activity is low on their priority scale, no they are not lesbians, they are women exercising their natural right to limit their sexual contact or in some cases omit it from their lives.
There are common misconceptions about asexuality, one being that it's caused by having too many X or Y chromosomes,it's possible but the asexuals as they pertain to spinsterhood, are normal women with the correct number of chromosomes. The others are, genitalia deformities and traumatic experiences.
I dare not say that neither of the two couldn't cause asexuality in a human being, there's a wide variety of reasons why some Leather Spinsters identify as asexual but the number one reason is it's the most comfortable of all the sexual options for them.

The only consistent defining characteristic of asexuality is that people who are asexual have no sexual attraction to other people and do not desire to engage in sexual activities with others.
