It was a bad surprise to see Glorfindel's - and Asfaloth - scene cut on FOTR, with Arwen stoling the scene from him and from Gandalf too.
Yeah Asfaloth is the Elven horse Arwen rides on with injured Frodo to Rivendell.
Asfaloth made it look like any horse can outrun the Nazgul horses but really the Nazgul horses are really much faster because really in the book, Arwen didn't ride Frodo across the river!!

Contrast this with the comments regarding Asfaloth, the white horse of Ar--er, Glorfindel: In the dusk its headstall flickered and flashed...
So if Glorfindel had foreseen that he has to give his horse to someone who is not on good enough condition to ride without a saddle, of course he had to take one with him.
In short Maybe Glorofindel couldn't ride without a saddle or maybe asfaloth was an elvish equivalent of a warhorse and Glorofindel needed a saddle to properly fight while on horseback.

Well, he is Asfaloth of the Cunning Mind, so he can't be scared.
The idea about Asfaloth's mother was spawned in "Flight to the Ford" when Asfaloth mentions he'd heard tales about how awful the Ringwraiths were.

asfaloth says "when played on arwen, asfaloth's twilight cost is -2".
This is not equivalent to playing, however, so transferring Asfaloth from Legolas to Arwen is *not* free.

Asfaloth is also a cool horse, too - in the books and the movie.
Bill, Shadowfax, Asfaloth, Brego, Arod, Hasaful, Snowmane, and ofcourse the yet to be seen Windfola and Firefoot.
Asfaloth- while not getting too much screen time, he still impressed me, and as a horseperson, he'd be the first choice if I was asked which horse I would like to swing a leg over; he's also quite the looker ;)

In case you didn't know, Asfaloth is the horse Arwen rides across the River Bruinen (In The Lord of the Rings).
FYI: In the book, the elf Glorfindel is the owner of Asfaloth and it's Frodo alone who rides it across Bruinen, but lets not digress.
Well, being a LOTR fan and loving horses, this is just a picture that my fingers were itching to draw.

Asfaloth seems to have been a bit more upset at the Bruinen than he was admitting to: he mentions "I saw amid the water white riders upon beautiful white horses with frothing manes" -- yet somehow he fails to mention that these phantom horses are nowhere near as beautiful as *he* is....
Being in the presence of the ringwraiths is pretty upsetting though (poor, traumatized Asfaloth ;)), so he was concentrating more on not shaking like a leaf or bolting.
Author Reply: Well, as he would be swift to tell you, Asfaloth is a unique horse.

 Lord of the Rings Horses - Behind the Scenes Information
In the books, Asfaloth was Glorfindel's horse, but in the movie, he was ridden by Arwen.
Arwen was doubled by an experienced New Zealand equestrian named Jane Abbott who was in control of the horse for the galloping and rearing sequences.
A 13 year old grey Andalusian named Florian was purchased for the film and pre-trained as a performing horse and two other horses named Hero and Odie were doubles.

first Shadowfax runs as fast as he can from point A to point B. then, without hearing, seeing, fealing, smelling (and of course not tasting) Shadowfax, Asfaloth runs as fast as he can from point A to point B. Now, who would be the fastest?
I thought Shadowfax was like...the lord of all horses from Middle-earth, so since Asfaloth came from Valinor (right?) he would stand a chance,.....appearently, i was wrong....
