This status quo in the comics was shaken up in the 1980s under the authorship of Walt Simonson, beginning with Thor's encounter with the monsterous yet noble alien called Beta Ray Bill.
Meanwhile, Thor engaged Surtur at Asgard's gates, and was overwhelmed by the fire-demon.

Pekar is also a favorite on the talk-show circuit, including eight infamous appearances on “Late Night with David Letterman.” A respected writer and jazz critic, Pekar still works full-time as a file clerk at the Cleveland VA Hospital, a job he has held since 1966.

May 7, 2004 - I find myself not that interested in comics that were specifically done about the September 11 attacks, perhaps because I've been disappointed with what I've seen of them.
As noted in an earlier column, Frank Miller was working on The Dark Knight Strikes Again on Sept. 11, 2001, and the scene of Superman standing in the rubble of the Daily Planet building clearly references the attack on the World Trade Center.
One might think that a worldwide war and the devastation of Washington D. would dominate most of the other comics set in the Marvel Universe during the period that this Avengers story line was published.

The standard I set for an Indie comic is still the same as what I would expect from one of the big 3 or 4 publishers…but I filter it through the fact that the creators are usually fresh to the comic book profession.
He begins the comic with Scatterbrain already well established in Devil's Hopyard and jumps quickly into the action to bring the reader up to speed on who the title character is and what he can do.

When I read a comic book I am constantly worried that the next page I turn will be the last.
Putting the preference aside, and trying to take this comic for a glimpse in to the character’s lives still leaves me bored.
Third, my comment did add something to the conversation by implying that you by proxy are Chris Claremont and are a pathetic, feeble minded man no longer capable of producing a quality comic book which shows my agreement with the original spirit of this review.

And those other kiddies are buying- comic book shops ignore selling (and advertising that they sell) this cash cow at their peril.
The show needs an outlet, comic relief- a funny character outside the web of deceit or dourness who isn't "field rated", a break between the action scenes, a "normal guy" that the viewers can relate to- and the show's creators need an outlet for their own light-heartedness and humor, too.
Twenty years ago I did a comic book about a twenty-first century America with endless reality shows based on public humiliation; a federal government secretly selling off pieces of the United States; and a citizenry so drugged out on media they colluded in their own betrayal.

The comic page itself was transformed into a beautiful representation of the afterlife.
You know what bothers me? The fact that Asgard looks so different from artist to artist.
But with a simple story, basic plot elements and such, maybe give this one to your younger relatives, but if you're over 15 or so, I don't see the appeal.

You see, in comics all the letters are in uppercase, and when I read them the ink would smudge sometimes.
I guess all of the violence glorification of comics is problematic, but I'd hate to see some Michael Bay-ish take on Somalia or other civil war-torn African nation.
Papakwanz: The story being big isn't what stops Sandman; what stops Sandman is the same thing that stops Watchmen— that it's really an example of comics at their highest form, and translating it inot a different medium would rob the piece of some of what makes it great.
