Jessi Colter - Out of the Ashes (Album Review)
Out of the Ashes, Jessi Colter’s first collection of new material in over 10 years, finds the first lady of outlaw country pondering the ins and outs of love and faith.
Produced by the legendary Don Was, the album is a collection of rollicking blues boogies, hopeful gospel hymns, and minimalist pop ballads.
Out of the Ashes is a worthwhile listen that highlights her beautiful yet tenacious voice as well as her adeptness at crafting both pop and southern-fried roots music.

 Filmtracks: Angela's Ashes (John Williams)
The album opens and closes with the concert arrangement of the title theme (again, nothing new for the concert-minded Williams), and these performances are highlighted by frenetic and mysterious piano solos.
On the Angela's Ashes album, the quotes are heard at the start, middle, and end of various cues, and although I was initially annoyed by their presence on the album, I warmed up to them on the second listen.
My only two gripes about the album are the lack of individual and separate tracks for the quoted material, as well as the two source songs in the middle which drive a nail through the heart of Williams' score.

Lamb of God: Ashes of the Wake - PopMatters Music Review
On Ashes of the Wake, enigmatic producer Machine (who has worked with artists as diverse as King Crimson and Pitchshifter in the past) adds some badly needed fine-tuning to the Lamb of God sound, and the end result is their most fully-realized piece of work yet.
On the album, vocalist Randy Blythe emerges as one of the most distinctive frontmen in contemporary metal; instead of going for the guttural, extreme vocals that have become commonplace in the last decade, he takes on a menacing, raspy-throated snarl, managing to sound ferocious, yet understandable, barking out his lyrics like a demonic drill sergeant.
The album's not earth shattering, but it is absolutely loaded with menacing tremors, with the ominous hint of something even bigger lurking on the horizon.

Ashes is a composite of two recording sessions, recorded over the course of eighteen months, in Houston, Los Angeles, and Chicago.
Two tracks from Ashes, Everything I Got and Dance with Me have quickly become staples on WXRT (Chicago), WXPN (Philly) and a third, Gonna be Good is a mainstay on XM Radios Nude Cafe.
Rife with the real-life struggles of broken relationships and battles against the demon that is oneself, "Ashes" is also liberally sprinkled with the hope and faith needed to overcome life's greatest obstacles.

 Glass & Ashes Reviews
As the album progresses, it becomes clear that both bands share a sound that includes the roughness of early punk rock, but Glass and Ashes meld more rock’n’roll influences into the mix.
Not that Glass and Ashes are trying to be cool, but by default this band is cool as shit and the comparisons are dead on.
Glass and Ashes is actually one of those bands who's pushing their limits further and seem to be open for experimenting and creating a very varieted style of chaotic unpolished but still partly structured emocore.

 Projekt: darkwave - 'Grave Blessings'
At the album's simplest, such as "Emptiness," with accompaniment provided mostly by Laird's acoustic guitar, the power of the singing is extremely clear, but the blend on the fuller arrangements is no less enthralling.
A fine example of what Unto Ashes is after this time around is the song "In Memory of D'Drennan" which marries a trip-hop beat to deathrock guitar, cold waves of synths, subtle male vocals, and accents of soaring neoclassical female vocals.
Unto Ashes' newest album is complex in its simplicity, using such elements as sparseness, open space, and drones to emphasize their powerful musicianship.

Sometimes you get an album that already bores you after the first couple of spins, and this is, I'm afraid, one of those albums.
Ashes you Leave offer us atmospheric Doom in the vein of the 3rd and the mortal on this third release.

One of the key bands of the mid-90s punk boom, Pennywise took the Bad Religion template of new school punk rock and propelled it further into the public eye of the general music populace.
Album number seven (or eight if you count Live At The Key Club) sees the band straddling the sound of Land Of The Free and the more breakneck pace of previous platters.
That is not to say it is a poor album, rather it is simply a workmanlike release.

With the upcoming release of their new studio album Ashes to start off SPV's 2005 release schedule, the promise of yet another (r)evolutionary step shines brightly on the horizon.
Ashes is a miserable attempt at a Tristania album.
Tristania are strong songwriters and understated players, and this album culminates in the ambitious, multi-pronged epics "Equilibrium" and "Endogenisis." Though tread carefully with some of the band's slower numbers, like "Cure" and "Shadowman," which tend to drift off into the ether.

Ashes (album) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ashes is the fourth full-length album by Norwegian gothic metal band Tristania.
The album was released on January 24, 2005 and registers a change in the band's musical style, leaving out the choirs, pure operatic vocals of Vibeke Stene, and sounding heavier, both in instrumental and lyrical terms.
This album also introduced Kjetil Ingebrethsen for the growls.

Blood and Ashes is the culmination of six long years of hard work and standing in the shadows of Jedi Mind Tricks' success, virtually ignored by the local press and unable to give up their day jobs to concentrate on their first love.
Together they have created an album that distinguishes their sound from that of their closest musical cohorts while remaining true to the classic hip hop sound of their hometown.
Blood and Ashes simultaneously succeeds in proving their individuality and paying due respect to the crew that has supported them all the way.

 Tristania Reviews at Lunar Hypnosis
What this album represents is a re-release of Tristania's Demo from 1997 & their 1999 single 'Angina.' So obviously nothing new, but there are some hidden treasures for hardcore Tristania fans.
On the demo there are two songs, which were never reused for any album, and on the single there is one song, which did not make it to the 'Beyond the Veil' album.
The vast majority of the guitar riffs are redundant, the drumming is just some slow plodding that pretty much stays the same way the whole album through, and the keyboard parts lack any sort of brilliance that you'd expect a band of this genre to have.

The track Nightfeast from their debut album was featured on 'The Unquiet Grave' compilation in 1999, and it sure captured the attention of quite a few gothic music lovers.
The immediate thing to catch the listener's ear is the fact that the vocals are not done in the usual deep booming tones with every song that one associates with similar gothic rock music.

Christian Death : Ashes - Listen, Review and Buy at ARTISTdirect
The second and final studio album done as a full collaboration between Rozz Williams and Valor Kand, Ashes finds Christian Death at what might have been simply the beginning of a long-term partnership of quality rather than a final break.
Kand, in the meantime, brings a much more consciously artistic edge to his music than Rikk Agnew did on Only Theatre of Pain; here the aggressive power is tempered by a huge theatricality that still works, almost in spite of itself.
Not to say that this era of Christian Death can't rage as hard -- the conclusion of the opening track, "Ashes" itself, is a frenetic explosion of sound, where drummer David Glass and singer/keyboardist Gitane Demone also earn their keep.

The Ashes : Ashes - Listen, Review and Buy at ARTISTdirect
The rare and sole album by the Ashes is worth seeking by folk-rock aficionados, though it's not truly essential, and not worth the high prices it commands on the collector market.
The Ashes, though, have a more pronounced country-rock touch at times than the Peanut Butter Conspiracy do.
Nothing on the album is as good as the best cuts from their more pop-oriented non-LP singles, and some of the songs are mediocre, like the cover of "Homeward Bound" and the infrequent junctures during which a male singer (or singers) take over the leads from Taylor.

The album as a whole, is not the thing to listen to if you want to jump up and down and mosh, despite having some powerful, beefy riffs there is not really any agression.
However, if you are in the mood to get drunk and contemplate life, death and what lies beyond then this could well be your scene.

Emerging from the deepest, darkest and coldest depths of Norway come Tristania, with their fourth album Ashes, a fusion of Nightwish (musical and geographical neighbours) style fl, symphonic rock-opera metal with a classical twist.
Lyrically the band are mostly poetic, with many mood changes, but the music is what really shows their mood changes and story telling nature, “Shadowman” alone changes moods like a manic depressive, one part calming acoustics, the next urgent and angry squeals.
An element of surprise and a tingle down the spine moment is where all three singers come together choir like, rather than taking their own parts and showing us what they can do, and do so in a manner that is haunting and abit festive like.
