The Folkestone and Hythe constituency is different in that it has a number of centres which are not as dominant as Ashford is to the Ashford constituency and commented on Charing.
Ashford is big enough to act as a very strong magnet for the people of Charing and therefore it will be of advantage to them to continue to be represented by the MP for Ashford.
Ashford has always been a focal point: it was a market town and everybody came to it from the coast, from the marshes, right the way up to Ashford and, indeed, it is still a recognised “market town”.

Around the core of that area, that is Ashford and Maidstone we have identified, and in each case got the explicit support of the relevant borough council, two wards from Tunbridge Wells and a cluster of wards in the Faversham area which have to be joined to constituencies otherwise based in Ashford and Maidstone.
So the Ashford Liberal Democrats specific submission on the Ashford constituency is leave us alone if you can but we do not expect you will allow that to happen, therefore when you make the change do not take a single ward out on its own.
If you feel that the existing constituency boundaries subject to the realignment with existing constituency boundaries could be maintained we are quite happy to live with that, we have been told we have to be disruptive because of Rule 5 and we have put forward a lest disruptive counter-proposal which better meets Rule 5.

The Case for a Multi-Party US Parliament?
The paper is organized in 5 sections that address: 1) the cumbersome tool of impeachment; 2) the stalemate of divided government; 3) the costly, never- ending campaign process; 4) the continued deterioration of voter turnout, and 5) a critical analysis of the obstacles that a parliamentary remedy to these problems would face.
In a parliament, the prime minister as the head of government is required to engage - and be criticized - in the rough-and-tumble world of daily politics.
Unless a president could be assured of a majority in parliament, unlikely with a multi-party parliament, then the divided government problem simply rears its ugly head again.
