 Ashio Copper Mine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Ashio Copper Mine, Ashio, Tochigi prefecture, Japan which became very significant from the end of the nineteenth century to the mid twentieth century.
The Ashio mine has been in existence at least since 1600 when it belonged to the Tokugawa shogunate.
At that time it produced about 1,500 tons annually, although this declined with the mine being closed by 1800.

A well-preserved Lower Triassic radiolarian fauna was found in a siliceous claystone and chert sequence in the Kuzu area of the Ashio Terrane, central Japan.
Based on the faunal analysis and chronological dating by conodonts, this radiolarian fauna probably represents an older part of the Pn Assemblage, where "Paleozoic type" Entactiniidae are still a dominant component in Early Triassic time.
