  CU CSCI News - Ashvin Mysore Named Davidson Fellow
Ashvin delved into the complex realm of computer graphics fractal terrain generation and succeeded in developing an innovative solution to generating very realistic terrains by applying a novel, recursive, random-altitude algorithm to a ROAM (Real-time Optimally Adapting Mesh)-inspired binary triangle tree structure.
Producing real-time terrain generation able to run on a desktop computer, Ashvin's work has broad applications in scientific visualization terrain rendering, meteorology, geology, space science and military training.
The award was based on Ashvin's final project in the CSCI 5229 Computer Graphics course under the direction of Associate Professor Elizabeth Bradley.

Ashvin has also been working as a producer of a DVD entitled ADVENTURES IN SHORTS – a film-maker’s journey to Hollywood which is a compilation of his short films plus three half hour documentaries about their making and one about the Cannes Film Festival.
The DVD is on sale from the website www.adventuresinshorts.com Ashvin serves as a writer, editor, director and producer on his shorts, though it is writing and directing he’s focusing on for his features.

Writer-editor-director and producer Ashvin Kumar’s short ‘Little Terrorist’ is one of those movies that make a point, and a global one at that, without trying to be pretentious.
Ashvin has a keen eye for noticing humour in pathos, a quality similar to that of Samira Makhmalbaf(Blackboards).
The bittersweet remedy that Bhola’s daughter(Megnaa Mehtta) suggests to hide Jamal’s identity from the Indian soldiers or Jamal’s private laughter at the climax are some of the humane colours that Ashvin paints against the backdrop of the rustic Rajasthan.

I can't think of one that's literally changed my life but a book that resonated with me on a personal level is Arundhati Roy's The God of Small Things.
I was watching my daily dose of over-the-internet news bulletins (MSNBC,CNN) and thought I saw footage of Hugo Chavez holding up a book by Chomsky during a UN speech.
This reminds me of the report of the Iraqi prime-minister also being a Chomsky fan (atleast according to Tim Russert).
