Most geographers regard Asia as bounded on the north by the Arctic Ocean, on the east by the Bering Strait and the Pacific Ocean, on the south by the Indian Ocean, and on the southwest by the Red Sea and Mediterranean Sea.
On the west, the conventional boundary between Europe and Asia is drawn at the Ural Mountains, continuing south along the Ural River to the Caspian Sea, then west along the Caucasus Mountains to the Black Sea.
Asia is bounded on three sides by oceans: the Arctic to the north, the Pacific to the east, and the Indian to the south.

Get Ready to ROCK! Review of DVD featuring classic rock band Asia called The Ultimate Anthology and recorded live in ...
Asia have consistently peddled intelligent, melodic, rock since the eighties and this compilation follows the band in live performance from a 1990 TV broadcast with John Wetton and Pat Thrall, to a more recent outing at a New Jersey classic rock festival.
The one common denominator appearing in all iterations of the band is the great Geoff Downes who supplies a cultured pop sensitivity with lush synth stylings, and ear for the symphonic chorus.
If you have the currently available DVDs 'Asia Live In The USA', 'Live In Nottingham' and 'Live In Moscow' you will already own many of these tracks, but for those approaching Asia for the first time, who relish some visuals, this is an excellent introduction and whets the appetite for the next CD.

 CW REVIEWS
In spite of Asia doin' very well indeed in their line-up of the latter years (with Jeff Payne as vocalist/ bassist), the band original band members decided (as far back as January 2006) to reform the original unit, in order to commemorate the 25 th anniversary of their 1982 smash hit self-titled debut album.
It was the first time ever the band in its original line-up had played in Japan, and therefore it was considered the ideal place to do some recordings (this being the audio rendition, there's also a DVD coming out soon).
With "the Heat Goes On", the band brings another track of their second album, and with "Ride Easy", they bring a song which was originally intended to be on the debut, but was only used as the b-side to the "Heat Of The Moment" single.

Like the Phoenix of the title of their 2008 album, Asia has risen from the ashes and made their first studio album with their original lineup in a quarter century.
It could have easily fit on the debut record, and in a way it gives the fans reassurance that this is not a band that has lost touch with why it's songs gained attention in the first place.
Asia is a band that won’t click with everyone, but that isn’t really news to most of us at this point.

 Asia
Asia was formed in 1981, but was curiously prefigured the year before by an intriguing quartet that could have changed the course of Yes's history.
However, it was not to be: the band have said they felt a fifth member was not needed, while, as Rabin describes it, he had already turned down the offer anyway in favour of that from Squire and White.
Made by four former members of the leading progressive rock bands of the 1970s (Yes, King Crimson, ELP), Asia's more mainstream sound was a surprise to many fans of Yes, ELP and King Crimson, but the new sound proved hugely popular commercially with a new audience.

The Return of 'Art-Rock' Band Asia - 2004-08-12
Formed in the early-1980s, Asia was considered one of the ultimate progressive or art-rock bands, with hits such as "Heat of the Moment" and "Don't Cry." Waning in popularity in the 1990s, they've now re-grouped with a few new members and are releasing a new album, Silent Nation.
Asia's self-titled debut album was released in 1981, the same year that video music channel MTV signed on the television airwaves.
Asia is about to release Silent Nation, which they call a deliberate return to their musical roots, with an updated sound for the 21st century.

Asia Music (Used, New, Hard-to-Find) - Alibris
As a band Asia were able to do what few from the prog rock era were able to do: combine streamlined pop hooks into very sophisticated songs that included varying instrumental passages where individual members could stretch a bit.
At its best, Asia was the majestic, arena-sized tonic to the increasingly goofy end of the new wave movement, a last gasp from the near dormant volcano called prog rock.
The Asia of old actually had an arena rock sort of sound that, while espousing prog elements and textures, was pretty much straightforward rock.

If Asia is to exist in 2008 and beyond, it’s essential they kick things up a notch without falling back on their laurels any more than necessary.

Asia - Definitive Collection CD Review
Asia are band with a convoluted history, at times akin to a soap opera and the comings and goings, line up changes, fallings out et al would make a good book.
However before all that took place the band had recorded one of the best debut albums of all time, and the biggest selling album of 1982, in the shape of the self titled Asia opus.
Opener 'Heat Of The Moment' is probably the song that will forever define Asia, a bona fide classic and a song most readers will probably have in one form or another, however Asia were by no means a one trick pony.

History: After Arena, the permanent membership of Asia was back down to Downes and Payne, but plans emerged in 1999 for a stable quartet of Downes, Payne, Slade and Crichton (with Crichton simultaneously remaining a member of Saga).
The Asia reunion had been principally to tour, but there were reports of new material, although this seems to have just been some songs Wetton brought to the band.
The Asia name was owned solely by Payne by now: Wetton, Howe and Palmer had all disposed of their rights to it, until finally Downes sold the name to Payne.

Aria closes the chapter on the band you remember from their debut, while Arena gives you a glimpse of where the group was heading in the future.
Asia had become more of a two-man 'project' rather than a tradional 4-man 'band'(like their heroes Steely Dan), and with ARENA being mostly a studio creation, there was no tour for the album.
At this point, anything was game for Asia and it was here on this album that Asia had become a true 'progressive' band in that they were taking chances and changing styles and influences rather than trying to relive 'Heat Of The Moment' or their MTV heyday.
