 ASIA SOCIETY: THE COLLECTION IN CONTEXT
The region known as Southeast Asia is composed of eight countries: Burma, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines.
For many of these countries, a good deal of their art, culture, and religion as well as their conceptions of law and kingship were originally based on Indian ideals.
Southeast Asian art in the Asia Society collection consists mainly of Hindu and Buddhist sculpture from Burma, Thailand, Cambodia, and Indonesia, although the museum's holdings range from a stunning bronze ceremonial axehead dating from 500-200 B.C.E. to 15th- and 16th-century Thai and Vietnamese ceramics.

 World Summit on the Information Society - Western Asia Preparatory Conference
As a follow up to the first phase of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) and in preparation for its second phase to be held in Tunis on 2005, ESCWA is organizing a roundtable on “Strategies and plans of action for building the information society in Western Asia”.
A tentative plan of action for the information society in Western Asia, produced by ESCWA and based on the global Plan of Action adopted in the Geneva phase of WSIS, will constitute the basis for discussions at the Roundtable.
