Racing in Hong Kong was introduced by early British settlers, although the exact date is unknown.
It organised all racing activities, although betting continued to be operated by private clubs with the Jockey Club receiving a commission.
The Hong Kong International Races are now generally recognised to be the most international event in the racing world and the main meeting point for northern and southern hemisphere thoroughbreds.

The Asian Racing Conference was established in 1960 on the initiative of Count Todamasa Sakai, President of the Japan Racing Association and Mr U Chit Khine of the Rangoon Turf Club.
It was renamed at the 28th Conference in 2001 and became the Asian Racing Federation.
In 2001 the ARF Charter was amended to establish two Vice-Chairman positions on the Executive Council and Dr Imahara of the Japan Racing Association and Dr Larry Wong of the Hong Kong Jockey Club were appointed to these posts.

With the establishing the Equestrian and Horse Racing Club and keen interest and support of the royal family and the people of Bahrain, racing prospered from a small track and stand with modest facilities in Manama (The Capital), racing shifted to Riffa and then to the present sight in Raffa in 1981.
Five races are formed for thoroughbreds and one for Arabians; forty percent of the races are reserved for imported thoroughbreds, forty five percent for local thoroughbreds and fifteen percent for the Arabians.

 World Greyhound Racing Federation
The World Greyhound Racing Federation is a non regulatory body in that it does not administer, direct or control greyhound racing nor operate, in its own right, greyhound operations in any of the jurisdictions of its member countries.
A new charter for the racing greyhound was unanimously agreed at the recent Cork International Conference in line with the recently adopted American Greyhound Racing Welfare Charter and the Draft Welfare Charter prepared by the National Canine Defence League whose representatives were invited to present a paper at the Cork WGRF conference.
Where a racing greyhound is bred from, the long-term welfare of the bitch and puppies must be paramount.

A three-member committee from the Asia Equestrian Federation held a meeting in Abu Dhabi on Sunday with the officials of the UAE Equestrian and Racing Federation and discussed equestrian activities during the forthcoming 15th Asia Games, scheduled to be held in Doha, Qatar, from December 1 to 15, 2006.
In lieu of this, the Asian Federation members suggested Dubai could be considered as the intermediary place from where the horses could be sent to Doha.

As the local horses get to gallop tomorrow at Sandown for the first time in some months after the departure of the last of the spring carnival's overseas horses, Racing Victoria Ltd and the three metropolitan race clubs are happily back-slapping and revelling in the after-glow of another record-breaking carnival.
The 1600-metre race is one suggestion with the biggest potential to succeed, especially if a mooted Asian Racing Federation series gets off the ground in the next year or two.
Racing Victoria would certainly welcome such a carnival as it has in place a wonderful quarantine centre that is clearly under-used.

The IFHA (International Federation of Horseracing Authorities) was formally created in 1993 for the purpose of promoting and facilitating international participation in horseracing by harmonizing rules on breeding and racing.

The Good Neighbour Policy is an agreement amongst horse racing jurisdictions that they shall not provide betting on horse racing to residents of other signatory jurisdictions without the permission of that signatory jurisdiction, nor solicit, market nor advertise betting without prior authorisation from that other signatory jurisdiction.
The signatories to the agreement stated that its purpose was to show their unity in the cracking down on illegal, unlicenced or unauthorised offshore bookmakers on horse racing, in order to protect the revenue of the signatories.
On September 1, 2003, representatives from the Australian Racing Board, the Hong Kong Jockey Club, the Turf Authorities of India, the Japan Racing Association, the Korea Racing Association, New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing, the Singapore Turf Club and the Jockey Club of Turkey signed the multilateral agreement in Hong Kong on September 1, 2003.
